For my life I cannot hit online or even against the CPU. I have not completed one showdown, I have never score more than 5 in a game. I’ve watch every Hitting tips video on YouTube, Go into practice mode, change hitting view. I’ve never had this problem before MLB 20 so if SDS doesn’t fix the hitting issue I’m never playing again.

SDS

It’s okay man, on a daily basis I come very close to snapping my controller in half, we’re all here together

SDS

Stop changing things would be my first tip. Pick one camera and stick with it. Second tip is to find what works for you at the plate when batting. These guys that post these tips are generally top players that get to most balls, regardless of where they start their pci. Thirdly, I would suggest a patient approach, don't swing for the fences on every ball, look for the pitches that catch too much of the plate.

Lastly, and this something I noticed in my own play the other day, keep your hands relaxed. I found that I was gripping too tightly and when I went to hit the button, I was jerking the controller, therefore, I was ending up with bad pci placement. Without thinking I was pushing forward when I did, making my pci drop.

I'm not a great player, so you can take all of that with a grain of salt, if you wish.

SDS

I was feeling kinda the same way. Went back and played some earlier titles like 16 and 17 and was smacking the ball around like no other. For me it’s the timing window. They seriously messed with it and it’s way different than past games. To top it all off, when you do hit it, the rng has been ramped up which leads to more frustration.

SDS

Not sure if you saw this one. Hes got some good pointers in there.

And as stated prior, be patient, devise a game plan. I find i get to focused on immediate success (which is bad for me) its about the final destination. Example the other day I worked the count, tried not to chase (very hard skill to master, which i haven't) and got myself into the right situation and capitalized. I am by no means an elite player (pitching is my strong suit, but thats so messed up this yr) I'm forced to work harder on my hitting.

Its a daily process..

SDS

So what is "the hitting issue"? Are you just struggling hitting? If so they cannot help that. There are a lot of people out there that arent having issues playing the same game. So why would you think they would change anything? This game has a lot of issues but I for one dont see much wrong with hitting.

Your not alone. My batting average online is a paltry .181 I CANT HIT AT ALL and I've done everything, but yet in showdown, I have managed to complete the National League version. I have scored 7, 9, and 6 runs in my American League final boss and was just short. It can be done, it's really [censored] hard, but it can be done. Sometimes you can't outthink the game, let it come to you and not press. That's what Im doing and I feel Im getting closer.

First paragraph should be on a post-it next to every PS4 🙂

Worst thing I did was try to change to strike zone view from fish eye and to directional from zone hitting just because of anecdotals.

Think I lasted about 100 pitches on each before I decided they weren’t worth the trouble. The problem is my impulsiveness not the interface.

Also, does anybody else find hitting in 20 a crisper and more satisfying experience than in 19? Presently I’ve only played custom league games. No ranked seasons, batoru rowaiaru or events for me, thanks.

My blood pressure has gone down since i stopped caring about this video game. By far the only game that gives me doubts when i play online.

SDS

Been there, still there. I only play offline but I’m finding that:

  1. The view I chose is key. I use Strikezone
  2. Control my impulse to swing at everything that looks good. Work the count. Unless you have 2 strikes, look for the pitch you like.
  3. The more balls the cpu throws, the less energy and confidence it’ll have. Pitches will become “flat” over the plate.
  4. If you continuously chase bad pitches(For me it’s the change up), the cpu will continue to throw it.

Yeah, not caring anymore is pretty much all you can do. Game is BADD.

SDS

100% on not caring any more. You cannot play this game to compete. You simply cannot. What I’ve found to be the best solution is to not care as well, not about anything.
I had most of the cards for collections, Trout, Arenado and so on. Then it hit me. Why would I think for one second that improving my team to all 99s would help in the slightest little bit? That’s crazy. It’s not the cards, the game is fundamentally broken and pretty laughable. Mickey Mantle will not change that in any way, shape or form. Following on from that thought process, I realised it applied to everything in the game.

Now, I laugh. I laugh a lot and post trolly jokey comments on TSN instead of angry frustrated comments. I don’t care about my team composition, I don’t care about my garbage batting average, I don’t care about my ERA, I don’t congratulate myself for wins, nor berate myself for losses. I often have tears of laughter rolling down my cheeks as I splutter into my coffee over a farcical animation or ridiculous hit feedback result. It’s really all you can do at this point, it is. I was streaming for a buddy last night and we were just literally like WTF is this game even? No point getting angry, or asking for patches, it is what it is.

On the subject of asking for patches, I’m done with that too. I used to check here every day to see if there was a patch coming out that would resolve all the issues. After two or three updates, I realised they were doing practically nothing to improve the state of the game, so even if there was a patch released, it wasn’t worth worrying about anyway. So I gave up caring about patches too!

SDS

What helped me was going into practice on legend and putting the fastball pitch speed up. Spend a day or two. I know it’s hard to stay in practice since there’s no rewards but it will play off in the long run. I now also do bp for 10-15 mins before I hop into ranked seasons. It will still take a while but the speed will slow down and pci will look huge. Invest a week into hitting. Nothing else.

Monitor or Tv?

SDS

Oh you’re MAD mad ... lol. If you’re on the brink of breaking your ps4, just take a break man. Playing while angry will more than likely just have you playing even worse. Sometimes best thing you can do is taking a step back & regrouping.

SDS

I almost broke a controller yesterday. Haven't had that urge in years.

Well said. By chance did you have the game 3 days early from pre-ordering? That was the most fun I have had with a release of MLBTS since 16. Just wondering your thoughts if you did.

SDS

It is impossible to hit in this game... just a fact. I cannot complete the showdows with exception of the first 2 innings. I had frustrated the hell out of me to the point of not caring about showdowns and tam affinity. Sucks that I cannot participate in these features of the game.
Go ahead, roll with how easy it is for you and I need to practice and get better. NOBODY has endless time to get to this level to complete these showdowns. So tired of the people that ignore all the players that ARE having a tough go at it and just bragging how good they are and you suck. It’s pointless.

SDS

I'm back to playing R6 Siege, God of War, RDR 2. So many great games out there that are actually worth your time.

If it's starting to damage your mental health or mood, for the love of God, stop playing it.

I did early access both this year and last year, when we had similar complaints that “game played great at launch and then patch x.xx broke it”. My take, for what it’s worth, is that while there is some tuning by SDS in the early stages of the game, as flaws or oversights become apparent during mass play, there’s also the fact that you’re usually playing on all star or veteran settings, which make the game an entirely different proposition (See the MLB Players League for an example) and don’t have a significant sample size of games played to make that kind of judgement at that stage.
Once you spend more time with the game and move up to HoF or legend, it all begins to unravel, the new game shine wears thin and you begin to pick up on the ugliness. So yes, there’s probably some issues with SDS being too quick to adjust the game early on, but I think the placebo aspect of playing a new game and easier settings is a greater factor, although you won’t find many people who like that theory over the “SDS broke hitting with a patch” approach.
