This recent flood of “packs are a scam!!” threads are even more embarrassing than the “showdown is r0gged!!!” threads.
Packs are a scam tho. The math is easy to see. You should just stick to berating people who aren’t as good at the game as you are.
"The math" is just people who don't understand how odds work
So let’s say if you get just a bronze or two your pack will be worth somewhere between 100-500 stubs. For this experiment we will say this packs value at 250 stubs. If you pull a silver your pack value is somewhere between 400-800. We will call it 600 as an average for this. If you pull a gold the pack value is somewhere between 1200 and 3000. We will call it 1800 got this because it’s obviously weighted to the lower overalls.
Therefore by their own stated odds on packs if you were to pull 100 packs:
You can expect to pull roughly 55% of packs with only bronze. That equals 13,750.
You can expect to pull 33% of packs with a silver. That would equal 19,800.
You can expect to pull 10% of packs with a gold. That would equal 18,000.
Now going into diamonds you can see we are at 51,500 in stubs value from a 150k pack opening.
That means IF you happened to actually pull 2 diamonds, there is only a combo of 9 diamonds that would actually give you your stubs pack or make stubs.
That has absolutely nothing to do with whether the odds work out and shows mathematically the packs in this game are 100% a scam. Nice try though. And y’all common reply of 1 in 50 won’t produce 1 in 50 makes them even worse.
Packs were never meant to return on an investment, anyone who purchases them thinking so is the fool. That doesn't make it a scam.
SDS makes no promises you'll make your stubs back, you need to rework your definition of a scam

Son. You’re embarrassing yourself. Packs are not supposed to be a +EV investment. They are literally gambling — you only buy them with the hope of beating the long odds and making a big juicy pull. If you think you’re actually supposed to recoup your investment on packs then you shouldn’t be allowed to breed.
Your insults, to try to make yourself feel better on the Internet for whatever shortcomings you have in your life, aside, theres a line between -EV and a straight scam and these are way past that line. When these things finally get marked as gambling and regulated you’ll see the big difference. Shouldn’t be more than a year or two from now, if the sports games survive what ends up happening.
Yes, the “line” between being -EV and a scam is lying. SDS is up front about the long odds.
I don’t understand why you don’t see this, as you do seem to grok the math. The truth, imo, is that you’re not actually mad at SDS for the crummy pack odds. You’re just mad at yourself for understanding how terrible the odds are and still choosing to drop money on it anyway.

I actually prefer the word fraudulent but scam is used a lot when talking about odds. Fraudulent will probably be the word that is used in public when it all comes to a head.
But it’s all good. I just threw my 2 cents in with the math. Y’all can go back to berating people who pull packs.
-
@eatyum you would think that returning players would understand the odds by now. If your a first year player yea you may be tempted and not understand the way odds work.
I can’t feel sorry for ya just like I can’t feel sorry for that old woman spending her savings away at the slot machines late in her life.
-
If you don’t rip packs you can’t get a diamond
-
Well someone never learned probability
-
You knowingly gambled and lost. Now you want to scream and yell that you got robbed. I used to work in a casino, we hated people like you.
-
I pulled Trout from a daily reward pack.

as far as I'm concerned SDS just stole over $200 from me.
How is no one pointing out that 80 packs does not equal $200?
you can get 100 packs and two BIAH for $100, or less with the stub sale.

@oldgamingdad727 said in Shameful ripoff.:
He pulled Trout, 3 Bregmans, Cole, Heyward, Rendon, 2 Story, Arenado, Degrom, Morton in 80 packs. I got absolutely NOBODY. He got over a million in stubs in one shot. And they can't even give me ONE good player in 80 packs??
Every time I’m tempted to buy backs I just hold myself back. It’s hard because packs are fun to open just so unrewarding most of the time

@SaveFarris said in Shameful ripoff.:
Get your buddy to buy your packs. Problem solved.
I got a chuckle thanks for that it was much needed.. simple but funny
-
@oldgamingdad727 said in Shameful ripoff.:
I buy 50 packs and get NOTHING. A buddy buys 10 and pulls 4 diamonds. FU all.
Isnt that the definition of the opposite of ripoff? So you are saying you know of 4 diamond pulls in 60 packs?! That is GREAT odds.

"Fraudulent" is a legal term that doesn't in any way apply here. Keep using it and you might get your very own cease-and-desist letter.

I once pulled bellinger twice in 20 minutes, along with several other diamonds. It was awesome

Nice threat. Doesn’t bother me.
I’m just trying to come up with a close term for it. Unethical business practices is what the politicians use but I just feel it will be a different word used when the flood gates open.

This is a hilarious post. Why do you think you’re entitled to diamonds? All you’re entitled to 1 in 50 odds of getting a diamond in any one standard pack. You’re gambling with packs and sometimes you lose. That’s how it goes.

It’s a lot simpler than that, though. It’s not an unethical business practice. It’s just plain old-fashioned gambling. Nothing more, nothing less. The only way SDS is doing anything “unethical” is if the packs are programmed with odds different from the clearly stated odds we all can see.
The vast majority of the cards in the game come from packs. Sure, some lucky shfooyadell might get Trout as a post-game reward or as a daily login bonus. But the rest come from packs. So it’s obvious the packs are serving up a ton of diamonds. There’s no shortage of high diamonds in the market or on people’s teams. They’re out there in packs.... just not your packs (or mine either, unfortunately).
I don’t get why people think there’s something nefarious going on. It’s just gambling, and, as we all know, “the house always wins.” Of course, people are still willing to gamble because maybe they’ll get lucky just this once ...

Those “ethical” business politicians did their part, no further change or flood gate is coming , all games have to provide odds on loot boxes which they now do. If you want to take a run at SDS talk about how they doubled the odds when they needed to post them publicly. Your problem is handled with a help line, not legislation.

Lol I feel like I’m talking to people who don’t look anything up and just assume they know everything. The big countries haven’t even really got going on it. 2k doesn’t state their odds they just stopped the auction house in those countries smaller markets. Once it gets literally classified as gambling you will see what happens. Fifa is dealing with that one right now.
