Kluber and sinker question
-
People often talk about how dominant kluber is and how the sinker is so valuable. I know if the pitcher has a specific perk it will make his best pitch faster so that would help pitchers with sinkers. But maybe I don’t know how to use him/it. How are you guys using Kluber and sinkers? People are all over my stuff. And when I use Kluber his cutter and slurve are way better for me than his sinker. Any help?
-
Do you throw high sinkers? I think what most find useful about the sinker is that you can throw it anywhere in the zone and it has the same break and high velocity.
-
For the record I don’t do this. I can’t bring myself to do it, but I’m not making World Series any time soon.

Haha, me neither. I can't throw a high sinker.
-
What pitching interface are you using?
I use analog, and the “hit-ability” of the pitch depends on a few things; overall pitcher’s confidence, individual pitch confidence, and hitting your marks on the interface.
I’ve also noticed one fine detail on the analog meter. It’s not just hitting the yellow “release” bar and then hitting the target, but how fast you “flick” the joystick up after you hit the release bar.
If you move it fast, and you get a red color on the meter, it will be easier to identify the pitch at release.
If you get a green meter color, the pitch will be more deceptive...and if you tunnel it with other pitches, will be harder to hit.
Go practice with your pitchers and try to get green indications on the analog meter...each pitcher has their own input speed requirements.

It’s the high sinker people are talking about. I also can’t bring myself to throw them on purpose but when players are raving or complaining about Kluber’s sinker, that’s why.
Metas.

Wow I never knew that!! I always thought the red meant that it was being thrown harder so it had a higher chance of missing the spot, but would come in at a faster speed

It does throw it at a higher velo, but I’ve also had those “red” effort pitches hit very hard, so I tend to use them sparingly, and focus more on the “green” effort pitches.

Yea I use analog. I never knew that about the flick though. I’ll pay attention to that now. Appreciate it

I don’t throw high sinkers. Maybe that’s why I haven’t understood the rave. Maybe I’ll mix them in

I don’t think Kluber has a very good sinker. It’s slow and doesn’t break excessively, I’ve seen many better sinkers. I don’t think Kluber is good at all, he doesn’t even make my rotation, despite being my only 99 overall SP. The reason Kluber is tough to hit is his /9s and nasty cutter that does break a lot.
Players will throw the sinker slightly above the centre of the plate and slightly outside to lefties. This has the effect of generating a ton of weak contact, foul balls and pop ups to the opposite field and also increases his individual pitch confidence and overall confidence pretty quick, which again makes it tougher to hit. You can’t just go into a game with Kluber and start throwing 92mph batting practice sinkers low in the zone and expect to have success simply because he’s a 99 overall and people say he’s this years version of SS Kershaw. It won’t happen for you. Anyway, I dumped him, card is not good imo. -

I thought I was the only one, I guess that’s why I never made World Series. That’s just not baseball. It’s in the same category as bunting with Miguel Cabrera with the bases loaded.

This is correct, has nothing to do with deception as argued above.

I echo this. Its like having the meter in the red. You’ll throw it harder and I assume might use more energy. Absolutely nothing to do with deception

I have Kluber's Cy Young card and he's nasty. I typically shy away from sinker pitchers but listening to the AI, I just usually throw sinkers and slurves and that's enough on All-Star to get hitters out.

I’m glad to know there are others out there. Any time I get a high and in sinker I pass a little judgement. I know it’s part of the video game, but in my mind there’s something cheesy about it.

Agreed, I never throw one on purpose, though get quite a few floats that end up high. When I play someone who spams high sinkers, all bets are off. I will use every exploit I know to even the playing field.
Edit, somehow I quoted the wrong post haha.

Eh, semantics. If you throw a fastball with Chapman with full “effort” input it will surely be faster. But it will also be flatter, and easier to decipher, that it indeed is a fastball hurling at the zone.
Throw that same fastball with “green” effort input, off of the slider tunnel...it won’t be as flat or fast, and you just bought yourself a few milli-seconds of time for the batter to determine what your throwing. By having that slight “hump” in the FB’s flight path, it helps it mimic or give the split second illusion that it may be a slider.
I struggled mightily with Chapman, because I was trying to throw the heat as fast as possible. But with the effort input adjustment and tunneling, I’ve righted the ship. So in part it does have something to do with deception.
Tomato tomato
