What is Stealing Cheese?
Probably similar to bunt cheese. We say “cheese” because it’s nigh on impossible to defend against, even when all possible steps are taken to thwart the opponent. I faced a guy who likes to bunt (shocking!) and his Vidal Brujan card went 5-5 with 5 bunt singles, despite the fact I enabled bunt defense and threw a pitch that was hard to get down. Just couldn’t defend against it, even using every tool in the box.
In a similar fashion, we have 99/99 speed steal guys who you simply cannot throw out. It’s either a bad tag animation at second base (defender uses the sweeping tag move instead of a more logical glove down manoeuvre) or just can’t get the ball there in time. When an opponent exploits a broken game mechanic repeatedly to gain an advantage, we call that “cheese”.
I have thrown out many 99/99 players stealing...you have to have good catchers and good 2nd/SS player. Also it is easy to deal with bunt players...throw the ball high and it will be a popup 99% of the time
Well, [censored] me for using 99 Posey I guess. Who is a decent catcher?

Hell anyone...if you can't throw out anyone with Posey that sounds like a you problem. I have mediocre Posada as catcher but have Sandberg as 2nd so I have no problem throwing people out

Well, That’s extremely good to know, as I have Sandburg at second as well. I’m going to go and try and fix this “me problem” that’s just user error by upgrading my second baseman and catcher as suggested and trying to do better than making a prefect throw as fast as I possibly can. I’m betting you probably have solutions for good/okay, fielders not catching balls near walls and so on as well?

I’ve actually found that it’s near impossible to steal, at least online. The opponent gets a perfect bar nearly every time. I could have a 1 step lead with a 95 speed guy like Brujan and I’ll still get thrown out because of the perfect throw.
I don’t really consider the bunting cheese either. I haven’t had much of an issue with it. If a guy is showing consistently that he wants to bunt then I’ll just do bunt defense like you said. That usually prevents them from doing it.
This 100% stealing is nerfed and glitched. I'll steal with Henderson and he'll get picked up and moved backwards to be forced out. It's really bad.
-
Hitting was not good day one. Or if it was, pitching was atrocious. Literally everyone and their grandmother could close their eyes and swing at a pitch and manage to get a hit, and that hit would probably be a homerun. Every game was 15 to 14 or 11 to 10. Are we forgetting this already? It isn't perfect now, but it certainly wasn't "good" on day one either.

I'm sorry but I have a really tough time believing that happened. I try to drag bunt with Brujan all the time and only get half of his bunts down in fair territory. When I do, maybe half of those turn into hits. That's why I took him out of the lineup and put Xavier Edwards back at 2B. If opponents slack off and forget to put bunt defense on when he's at the plate, I'm bunting.

You sound like you probably work at SDS in some capacity. Here’s my solution; you have your opinion on the state of the game and how much of an issue good/okay is and I’ll have mine. That’s fine. If I wanted to actually push the issue with you, I could ask our fellow members to offer their personal opinion on good/okay and how much of an issue it is in H2H play and I’m pretty sure we’d find that you’re somewhat of an outlier in terms of viewpoint. That’s also fine, SDS just love outliers this year. Especially if they have a sinker and a slurve.

I don't know. I think it's playing better now, there are still some fielding issues, but it's better.
I just think they need to fix pitching and seriously tweak the good/okay hits.

Honestly think they are just too obsessed with the data and not relying simply on just play testing their game. They’ve always been like that. They look at spreadsheets and charts about how numbers compare to real baseball averages and stats and it triggers gameplay updates that break the game. I don’t think they play their own game enough. If they don’t stop trying to make it a baseball sim of stats, it’s never gonna be as fun as a “video game” should be, and it’s also never gonna be the competitive e-sports style of game they want it to be either. You can’t throw in all that randomness of fielding and pci placements and expect to be accepted on a competitive level. I just want the game to not be broken, and frankly I want SDS to live up to a proper level of communication about issues and non-issues. They may have always made improper and irrelevant explanations of their tinkering over the years, but at least they were saying something. It would even be acceptable if they just came out and said that they can’t fix things until the pandemic levels out enough for them to go back into the studio to work. They had no presence even during the players league. Communication is key and they just haven’t been anywhere with anything to say. The only time I’ve heard them report anything was at patches saying things were fixed that weren’t really fixed. I like those guys at SDS but they are making themselves look bad.

The game seems to get worse every day. A new glitch or bad mechanic pops up regularly. If my 95 Diamond Defense 2nd baseman just runs by another 2 hop grounder I may puke. Hitting is just bad, check swings that are really full swings, AI determining outcomes through errors on game winning plays so that its not me or opponent diciding outcome but the AI. Catch up code that just takes over the game make score close. Close games means guys buying players and stubs to get better. Ever notice that when you debut a new player almost always Rakes in first 10 or so AB's then cools off quickly? Make you feel good about spending that money and hopfully you will dxo it again. Hell even HR Derby has a major bug where you don't get to hit in finals and lose. Says "Unfortune you hit 0 HRS." You didnt even swing once! I love baseball aand this franchise but SDS lost their focus on this edition. Too much emphasises on the eye candy and no resolution to the core of any sports game, the [censored] game mechanic. Hell my fielders are now often reacting in wgggrong direction and then they cant recover in time. Went and played MLB 19 and, while not perfect its at least fun. made it to #1 in the world on 19. I really hope they can correct 20 but Im not sure they know how to fix it to a proper level. It may not be fixable.. At least we now have the KBO on ESPN for baseball!
