I go to steal off the CPU with Ty Cobb on 1B with 99 speed and get thrown out even after taking 2 leads on the second strike of the AB. Does that sound reasonable?

They ought to just remove stealing from the game. It's obvious that SDS doesn't want you to be able to.

Best to steal with a 2 ball count....rarely if even get thrown out.....first two pitches are always high probably chance to pitch out or get thrown out. 2-0, 2-1, 2-2 counts usually easy steals

@Practicalminded its ridiculous at how bad that logic is! Fast players steal all the time in the MLB but here the pitcher has a sixth sense that tells him when you’re stealing.

You actually have to pick your spots to steal, just like they do in real life. If the CPU pitcher has a two ball count, he won’t pitch out so thats the best time

Very few if any MLB pitchers are going to throw out the first two pitches of an at bat. Come on man. This is just the AI reading your controls and cheating.

Exactly! First pitch, not running, no extra lead, no throw over, no pitch out, ball 1. Pitch 2, not running, no extra lead, no throw over, no pitch out, ball 2. Pitch 3, I hit button to steal, no extra lead, pitcher picks me off. Happened more times than I can count.

If you have a good base stealer on first wait until there are 2 balls since the CPU may go with a pitch out until then. Once you have 2 balls in the count, the pitch outs will end and you can steal - use L1 to get a jump during the windup.

Never, ever take an extra lead - usually not needed if you follow the above.

Speed 80plus, steals 70 about you should take the bag 90% of the time but face it I've had Henderson, Arizon 2nd basemen get bad jumps and they got thrown out.....remember catcher skills matter to. I even stole with Molina.....mind you guy struck out and catcher dropped the ball and I was barely safe, barely!

It's very evident when they want you to get a bad jump. I have had dudes with high stealing, just stutter and thats enough to get thrown out. If they are quick to patch steal exploit, why not patch ai cheating.

I like the pitcher who are so fast to the plate I cannot even react

Why press L1? L2 is the steal button right?

I seem to be the only person here who thinks that stealing on a 2-0 count is crazy unnecessary. Probability of a walk or a hittable pitch is significantly higher so stealing 2nd is almost pointless. Plus depending on the count and the batter the pitcher may end up pitching around the batter if 1st is empty.

I dont see how getting a player into scoring position is "unnecessary". Unless, you only plan on scoring by way of HRs.

I find it telling that something is off when I’m more likely to get thrown out using a player with 70+ speed than I will with a player with < 70 speed. I wait for 2 ball counts and been CS on curves in the dirt and catchers with no arms. The base stealing logic is bonkers, plus the CPU will throw over sometimes endlessly until they pick you off without taking a lead. BTW, in this game, Rickey is notorious for getting bad jumps. I swear he is the slowest 99 speed player ever created.

Yeah I used the wrong word there; it’s just the risk vs reward thing; the risk of getting caught stealing vs the reward of the runner getting to 2nd when there’s a reasonable likelihood they’ll end up there anyway.
