How did we get here?

Because people keep pumping money into the game for DD. It doesn't matter if the gameplay is good or not, as long as they are getting the amount of extra money from people buying stubs. I'm not saying this to hate on people who do buy stubs, if you have the money and want to spend it on this game that's fine ( I bought some the first year I ever played DD, but have not and never will again for something that is only good for one season) but they will never fix the many many issues they have in all the other modes if people keep doing that. Franchise is basically unplayable now because all their resources have gone toward Diamond Dynasty, which is understandable from a company stand point but you lose the fan base that supported the original version of this game that was all about franchise
Diamond Dynasty is the most broken mode of all in terms of gameplay. It doesn’t take much time or resources to recycle the same cards in a different order every year, albeit they supplemented them with a new future stars design this year. If they’ve been ploughing all available resources into DD, then they’re working with extremely limited resources to start with from what I can see.
Franchise I don’t play, all I know about franchise is it’s lacking in options and player regression/progression is terrible. Diamond dynasty I’ve played tens of thousands of hours over the last half decade, mostly RS and I could write a lengthy book on the subject. Yes, it’s the focus for SDS, yes it’s the cash cow for SDS, now that spending real money on RTTS isn’t a thing like it used to be, yes it’s the flagship mode of MLB The Show. But to assume they invest heavily in it in terms of time and money has to be false. The content is recycled, the gameplay is terrible compared to offline or other modes and it’s not polished at all.

I understand what you're saying as well, I don't really play online anymore because it is terrible to play online as well. But a lot of people don't even want to play online they want to play offline baseball game and be able to enjoy it but all the other modes have the same bugs and issues that they have had for years and they make no effort to fix them. DD gets updates / patches all the time, what do they do for any other mode? I'm not saying their updates or patches help the online play, but to me it's quite obvious that's where all their time and resources go is toward DD.

Remember though, they have this obsession with rebuilding everything every year, so it's more than just what cards they give us. If they didn't put all the time and resources into changing systems every year we'd probably have a pretty good game by now.

Counterpoint: People aren't going to pump money into a game they believe doesn't feature good gameplay..

in spite of what some people here believe. Most people are more likely to spend money on stubs if they are already enjoying the game. I'm not putting money into it if I'm striking out 18 times a game.

There's only four words that can salvage this game next year:
Bring back Online Franchise

Most people won't, but there are a lot who think if I get this card I'll be better, not realizing it's not going to make a big a difference as they think. People who have played DD know this, the newer people don't so they spend money thinking it will help. Then the card they bought is obsolete a month from now, so they buy another different card

Fielding is terrible, late jammed hits every where, RP can't be warmed up consistently and get shelled.
This game is a hot mess with a HR display more durable than Michael Myers.
If Michael Myers could of just channeled that consistency towards the game of baseball, he woulda been a legend of the game !

I mean his base walking speed would have been 99 plus he teleports to steal. Can't throw him out lol.

It seems that this year's game was a mail-in while they focus on next year's multi-platform release.

In the field he would never have to make a throw. He would just walk after the runner and they would fall down.

I'm sure this will be seen by some as trolling, but I assure you it is not. Do you truly, honestly, believe SDS doesn't know more about the software and how people are using it than we do? That they don't look at utilization across game modes an aggregate data from thousands of users, most of whom don't post on message boards? That they don't have a pretty clear idea of what makes money, what loses money, and decide to invest time based on data that they have and we don't?
Yes, a vocal small group of users can get messages out to devs about fine points, and they clearly listen. But deciding to invest development resources is not affected by how mad a forum user is or how passionate the small number of online franchise fans are. I am relatively certain the decisions are made based on data and business priorities. If you had a game mode with 300,000 users paying microstransactions, and another game mode with 10,000 users and no microtransactions, where would you invest?
PS. I love online franchise and I would play only that if it still existed. I'd pay a premium monthly fee for it, say 9.99. And I NEVER buy stubs.

The hitting and fielding are spot on. The pitching with that silly meter has to go! NO ONE should be using buttons to hit and pitch in 2020.

Is it just me or are there suddenly a disproportionate amount of posters who don’t come here very often to post, popping up in threads stating that hitting and fielding are spot on, good/okay is not an issue and other strange statements that hold no relation to hard facts?

Lol true ... they’d be running, he’d be walking and catching up,...
