Future stars cards blow....
-
I'm waiting for the day they get to guys who have a mlb.com page for them but were never good enough to actually have any information put on that page.
-
While I do think that there is a place for Future Stars cards, it is disappointing and a bit disrespectful to MLB's current stars in how much better FS attributes are in comparison to the Live series Diamond cards...who have actually EARNED their attributes.

None... I repeat, absolutely NONE will ever earn the ridiculously attributes these cards have.
Guys as fast as Rickey. The fastest ever....
That Pirates 3B with defense like Brooks Robinson.. lol
And Nolan Gorman who hits likes Chipper but better defensively.
Give me a break -

this is just a opinion but they just dont bring and excitment to me. yes people are gonna say "their stats are beast" i understand that but i would rather be going after throwback and current cards that have boosted stats.
My belief is that you shouldn’t have future star cards that have better attributes than current MLB stars. For example, there are probably 10 future star SPs that are better than Max Scherzer and Gerrit Cole. That should never happen.
-
I think if they are going to be in the game then their usage should be limited, almost the way Madden has the ridiculous cards with 999 contracts. Let them be novelty or to complete collections.

Quick question:
Do you follow minor-league baseball and top prospects in real life?
I'm not the OP but, yes, I do... And it makes me hate these cards even more because it's laughable who they pump up as the top guys and what they make their attributes out to be, pretty much ignoring scouting reports.
The fact that Wander Franco isn't the best FS card, and not even the best on the Rays team is a joke.
Brandon Marsh and Jo Adell is another example of horrendous decision-making. Brandon Marsh, aka Jake Marisnick 2.0.
They are taking guys with 50-55 grades and pumping them as 90 attributes, it's madness.
There's no rhyme or reason. They essentially look at a player, give him is perceived athleticism or archtype, then say what would make a great card and do that, rather than reviewing or considering their scouting grades and skills and projecting what they could be like in their prime.

Which top 100 did you use?
Also, I was not far off, going off the cuff here. 18 in the top 100, most all in the 50-100 range, some even borderline.
None in the top 30!!! And this is not cool at all.. I'm a die hard baseball guy... None of these guys excite me, especially when much better prospects are lower rated in a redundant series and real future stars like Bichette, Lux, Soto, etc don't even come near these ridiculous ratings. -
Id say there is 75 of the top 100 in the game. At the least.

Of the top 100 prospects in baseball, there is at least 75 in the game. Is that a bad evaluation?
I do agree with you that the rating should’ve been flipped. No Rays prospect or any in general should be better than Franco, lux, Bichette etc. they just released them in the wrong order and rating imo. Cool series non the less

75 where? Sorry. I'm not understanding that.
Of the 30 released in this series, only 18 are in the top 100.
Of those 18, none are top 30. Most in the 70-100 range...
The 30 picked were not good at all.
And ya, the fact Bo Bichette has a useless live series silver card and Kevin Smith has a 90 is an absolute crime. Why would any fan want that? -
Agreed, in the short term the concept and execution sucks. I don't follow the minor leagues. My local paper's sports section would devote pages if a Bronco had an irregular bowel movement, but is hard pressed to provide minimal coverage of the Rockies Major League team.
In the extended long term though...its not a bad thing. I do not follow the minor leagues. 2-4 years down the road I feel like I may have a slight advantage in my rotisserie draft if I can remember which cards are rated as speedy.

I mean you could actually spend some time looking these kids up. Watch some footage...
You can say the same thing for legends and HOFers from pre 1990s. How many younger people would have even heard of Larry Doby if it weren't for MLB the Show?
I say, save these cards for the players who have earned, and deserve cards with these ratings. Then, people can actually learn about meaningful baseball history, and not learn about some fantasy prospect who may never even play in the majors.

If you're a true baseball fan, you should absolutely learn who Larry Doby is! Well put.
The direction SDS has taken (away from history, more into this fantasy future cards reminiscent of NBA 2K) is a very bad one.No sport has even close to an incredible, deep history as baseball does. They have really dropped the ball on utilizing that history.
When The Padres number 2 prospect is much better rated than Bob Feller, something went wrong -

As reasons i stated above for true die hard fans it makes no sense... Handing out 90+ attributes to 50-55 graded tools? It's nonsense. At least have the players correlate to scouting reports.
They pumped the wrong players too. Vidal Brujan is way better than Wander Franco LMAO okay.
This is what they did, they looked at a prospect list, looked at the archtype of the player -- then asked themselves what would make a good card for that archtype with zero and I mean ZERO thought about their scouting report or graded tools... That's not cool.
-
The prospect series should have been used for these guys. Total no brainer.
With the highest being an 89 or so.The future stars cards and ratings should have been used for guys like Wander Franco, Bo Bichette, Vlad Jr., Torres, Tatis, Devers, Lux, Soto, Moncada, Alonso, etc.
The FotF should have been used for more established guys that need a higher rated card to be competitive..
Guys like Gallo, Ohtani, Seager, Molina, Anderson, etc. It's absolutely backwards and a total mess how they did it instead

Devers isnt a future star... He's a current star
2019:
129 R, 32 HR, 115 RBI, .311 AVG, .916 OPSBut yeah, pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Ya I know, but it would give him a beefed up card to be competitive. Like a 93 rated. Which fans would love to use way more than a 3B prospect most of those fans never heard of!

Just about everyone knows Dalbec, he was being pumped as the 1B this year which is why they ignored the position. Pumped on radio/tv too.
Now a Triston Casas prospect card? He would be less heard of for casual fans but sign me up baby.
Chavis could get a FS or Verdugo.
But yeah you got the right idea. Totally on board.
