Been away awhile. Any news on captain upgrades??

No.
Unless they change their minds Team Affinity is done so no more Team captains. They have had so many card series they could have done it with but they haven't yet.
As for other types of captains, if my memory serves, they did not showing up until it was very late in the year

They clearly don't want captains (or TA) in the game, but i'm still struggling to understand why.

I like captains, but you need another mode where you have a reason to play different lineups.
Lineup diversity is great, but its boring to me when it doesnt matter who you play - like theres 60 different players and theyre all....about the same. (SDS wont like it for a different reason - Noone will try to get the premium cards if theyre not clearly way better)
SO you need a mode that really requires you to use different guys....
