Why are headliners so expensive this year?

Did they used to give us a couple free headliner packs? Were they cheaper from the store in the past? Are there just fewer players?
Whats going on? In years past headliners were always cheap unless it was a highly sought after card— the Willi Castro headliner from last year comes to mind.

well the ones in the Awards series, especially the newer ones (Pudge, Matt Chapman, Steve Finley, and Adam Jones) are gatekeeping the V-Mart voucher, so I think that would explain those
as for stickier, deeper reasons I couldn’t really tell you

I think they're harder to pull this year. I've pulled 0 out of my... idk 250 packs.

I have no idea, but this year (for Headliners especially) has been brutal for me.
In general I tend to have really bad pack luck (last year was atrocious). I started out hot this year with a Judge pull and a few Sotos, but lately it's been BRUTAL.This is why I am not someone who gets excited about packs. I just sell off everyone I pull, flip cards and then buy the guys I want.

Nobody ever has headliners - they are super rare. Those awards headlines are gatekeepers to a point - but it seems silly for them to be that expensive. Its a gate you can easily skip.
The cards were interesting for a while, then the last couple (chapman, finley) have been cards that I cant see anyone really wanting. And I say that as someone who loves some Steve Finley nostalgia

I would argue that the drop-rates have decreased as they now only come with three cards.

@rubicante23_PSN that gate is a hell of a lot harder to skip rn if you don’t have or don’t want to lock in Chone Figgins (are we getting a Prime program this year?)
@x-814-x-mafia-x_psn per the drop rate listings the odds of packing each pack’s Headliner are basically the same (about 4.4%)

Headliners used to be the only pack for the fiends to buy. Now they have so many packs to buy they run out of stubs before they get to the headliners.
