They never should have made the visual box smaller, that's the issue. All they needed to do was take the ABS logic and apply it to DD since they've already claimed for years it's "perfect" umping by default. I personally like it, but I also understand why they should have gone the more logical and easiest way.

@Sarge1387_PSN counterpoint: it’s a lot harder to challenge when you have to use the location of the center of the ball instead of the entire ball - unless you’re talking removing the box entirely, which is an entirely different conversation

Question for those who know more than I currently do and in an effort to keep from posting another strike zone thread: Are the umpires in DD supposed to call a perfect strike zone, or will they still miss calls?
I ask because three times last night in events pitching as Clay Bucholtz I threw a sinker middle away to a right handed hitter that was nearly 50/50 split in half on the outside white line that was called a ball. Three times and two were for strike three. It always happened in the same location, just below the midpoint of the y axis and splitting the ball in half on the outside of the x axis. -

I’m not sure what happened, but I literally froze and held the trigger staring at the pitch location and checked on the hud to see the same spot. The first time was a strike 3 situation. The second was early count, the third was another strike 3 situation that turned into a hit a few pitches later and led to a run. I think I win that game, but it’s events and I was only grinding to get the program done so it didn’t matter too much. But it’s really hard to strike some folks out. They contact swing you to death and Clay doesn’t have a great change of pace to get swing and miss. So when you dot a pitch and get rawdawged it stuns you.

@LHUBison58_XBL I’ve had this issue as well I had a strike called atleast a inch off the plate against me and also have thrown pitches clearly touching called balls I don’t think it’s perfect but better then it was…

@Onix_Savage22_PSN I have had the bee’s [censored] strikes happen both ways. That’s cool to me. But fifty fifty in the line and it’s not called was shocking. I just want to know if others have had this.

I'm loving the new strike zone so far. It feels like good pitching is actually viable again. I'm actually striking guys out looking which was very rare before. We'll see if people adjust over time, but right now I think its been a great change.

So I'm seeing a mix of those saying it's broken some saying it's better. As with many sports games, they fix something for online and break something offline and vis-versa. Offline it's definitely screwed up. I'm striking out the CPU on balls outside the zone, not even touching a speck of the box, being called strikes every time. If you look at the pitch analysis that pitch that was fully out of the strike zone is showing half on the line. Pitches half on the line are showing inside the box. It's affecting hit aiming obviously as well. Sonething is screwed up.

New strike zone is amazing! Finally, we will be rewarded for dotting the black.
The problem with the way it was: you make a great pitch that straddles the black. No swing and called a ball. So now you have to try and adjust to bring it inside little more except the game fks you and serves up a meatball to be crushed.
Happens continuously in this game.
Coop last night was great as we were able to pitch ourselves to be competitive.
The only thing that pisses me off is when my opponent is consistently dotting the black with guys that I know have a PAR the size of half the strike zone.
Completely unfair and RNG. I don’t think perfect input on pinpoint or any other pitching method cause the ball to dot the black within the PAR.
Those are very likely cheaters using pitching scripts.

I had an umpire make a bad call last night against me, one bad call since the update is acceptable for me.

The new strike zone is fine but it's no closer to mimicking MLB than it was before. Current "real-life" isn't a perfect zone. MLB umpires still call balls and strikes imperfectly. The only difference in MLB is the ability to challenge a very small fraction of pitches.
Keep the real-world zone dimensions but re-introduce human/umpire error. That's the solution I'm looking for.

This change at first for me was like WT beep but after playing with it more I am fine with it. It's just going to take time to adjust plus it kind of forces the player to be a tad more aggressive or maybe pay for not doing it by striking out.

Personally I found myself swinging at trash pitches with 2 strikes just in case it some how barely touches the white line. I've begun to just take the called strike 3 that barely touches and go to the next man up. It actually has made me more patient earlier in counts.

The thing i don't like about it is that you can no longer work the pitch count. You almost HAVE to swing at anything close to the zone.
I used to be able to work the count, online and offline, to about 15-20 pitches per inning.
Now I'm lucky to get 10-12 per inning.
Plus, now you can almost throw everything in the dirt and you'll get bailed out more often than not.
I agree with the fact that you cannot really work the count anymore. People are saying that the only thing that changed was that the size of the actual strike zone has gotten smaller, but everything else is the same. If this is true, why not allow the player to choose which style strike zone they want to use?
In the MLB umpires are not calling every pitch that is a strike an actual strike. Yes, I am aware of the challenges, but teams can only get it wrong twice. So players shouldn’t challenge a first strike, or certain situations. Anyway, my last point was if this is to make it more “realistic,” not every strike is called a strike in the MLB. -
@Rhyno1986_XBL they will not give you a hit on a high inside sinker that barely clips the side of the top of the zone. Anything that barely clips the zone is most likely an out. It’s mainly anything inside.
Really took 2 different opoents deep during the even this morning while they where using King. 1 with trout and the other with Happ. So idk my guy maybe I just got lucky.

Is EXACTLY why the zone visual change was a good thing. It's 1 thing when the count is 0-2 and a pitcher wastes 2 pitches trying to get a chase and another when they literally should have struck the batter put looking.

This new strike zone is a huge miscalculation. In playing games in Ranked online and Mini-Seasons offline, balls that didn't even touch the strike zone were being called strikes repeatedly

There's nothing wrong with it...this is how it should have been all along. Also, those aren't balls. If you bothered to read the patch notes you'll see they basically said they've implemented the ABS logic, while making the outline of the strike zone thinner. Anything touching the zone even barely by a hair, is accurately called a strike.
I've yet to see anything off the plate called a strike.

100% agree. We struck out looking more...but also it changed out hitting mindset, we need to actually protect the plate now. We're ok with that because it's finally consistent.
Now if only they could fix the check swings, it would be awesome
