The most boring edition of DD yet?
-
@JenkinMeyer_PSN No doubt the game would be in a much better place if the focus was on getting the game play
where it needs to be instead of catering to the DD content where the money is at. So until that changes we will see minor improvements. I'll still buy the game every year and enjoy my offline experience. I just can't see dropping $100 every year and then throughout the year spending another 5k for some RNG virtual card packs you know are gonna be garbage. Maybe im just old, but who does that? lol -

Maybe im just old, but who does that? lolI think MLB is feeling it in the stands with the ridiculous contracts being signed, ticket prices etc. they’re just making up for lost revenues in games now or something.
Half of their broadcasts are sponsored by gambling companies, bet365 fanduel draftkings it’s just a way for them to make money for nothing. So packs play into their gameplan.
Sign big leaguers to just insane amounts of money - but look at the stands. No one wants to go to a ballgame anymore the stands are practically empty
But soon no one’s going to show up to their video games either
-
@JenkinMeyer_PSN You most definitely might be on to something there. I haven't been to a ball game since Manny hit his 400th homerun here in Seattle back in 2005 (10 bucks for a beer back then lol). Stadiums were still packed back then for the most part. My memories of going to games in the 80's & 90's you just can't recreate that atmosphere of that era (roids or not lol). It just doesn't exist anymore. We got too many options now. Just figuring out how to watch your team broadcast these days is like pulling teeth. Everything even local is behind paywalls...Not a single Mariners game is televised locally old school antenna style which i think is crazy. It's kinda okay though cause im a Cleveland fan. lol

It definitely is for me. I don’t want to have a “chance” At a card, so I don’t play DQ. I don’t want to play on All-Star, so I won’t be getting that card that’s locked to MS. The WBC MS counts wins as losses sometimes, so I’ve given up on that, until fixed. I really don’t play online, especially since the Gamepass price hike. That leaves a few conquests where the rewards for repeating them aren’t that great, and the normal MS, if I’m grinding on DD. I’ve quit this game earlier and earlier every year and this one looks to be the same. Plus, I’m not including the horrible menus, the bugs that make me have to quit out and restart the game, etc.

Yeah, in its current state I’ll be bored by May for sure. Only reason I’m grinding now is because of Pujols. Then when I get him I’ll realize “Oh” and then AJ Puk will get a 99 overall or some topps now card or some “upped” version of a card their live series rates as a 62 bronze.
What is live series for, exactly? Why do they rate everything so low in live series? It’s basically saying to all the players “we think you all suck [censored]” and then release a diamond version next week because they got a base hit.
Live series serves no purpose
Now if they had a “live series only” year around event that may spark interest. But otherwise it’s [censored] to ignore.
Ohtani for instance is 650k let’s say - and no one uses him. So what’s the point of spending 650k on something as useful as a 54 common. Equally useless and costs way less.
-
I would respectfully disagree..if you want to knock SDS for servers or gameplay that's valid but the post is about DD content. Live series card with inside edge and mods will play in competitive modes like longer than any other year. The spring breakout could of been completed without buying a single card and there's no overall collection for the egg hunt series which both are Ws. The 40k pxp for the last even was a massive L but having event rewards get people playing the event. The motivation to play ranked is the WC rewards. We will see how the legend collection plays out that might change my tune on this but not having any card above 92 released almost a month after launch is a big W. Mini seasons going to 7 games 3 IPs is a good change as well
-
And the 20 card max was a great addition coming from a NMS player with AL collections done 250k in stubs and 20 of shea sanchez cam abreau sandy and several others it's doable
-
It’s bound to happen. Sports games will adjust when UT doesnt do it anymore but it will be a few years. These modes are the only way a company can make money after launch.
-
The content just isn’t as much fun as it used to be and even TA turned kinda weird. Oh you’re a fan? Heres all the rewards after about three games but now using anyone from this team is kinda hindering you from completing progress towards anything else.
Programs feel like battle passes where the challenge is about as hard as logging in every week with not a single actual challenge just chores.
Even if it was just conquest extreme or something in between immortals and rookie2Prime that also got included at the end of TA it would go along way. I finished a couple on accident that’s how short they are.
When they had good content the gameplay wasn’t great. It’s pretty good these days and the content has taken a hit. It’s a shame because of all the sports game Baseball teams are probably the most fun to build and make your own.
They’ll never get themes teams right, they’ll never get captains right. They’ll just keep throwing out moonshot events to start the year and talk about how everyone loves it when nobody does. No effort just copy pasta
-
@yankblan_PSN VERY stale and boring, usually the start of the year is the best time for the game because of lack of all god teams and more strategy with team building (even though I usually just do Cards teams)
I have barely played this stale mess,
Same stale theme, 'duUh DuUh.Duh...dUh.DuH.dUh.DUh.dUH.duH..DUUH.Just a lazy half a$$ed mess, then has the nerve to be buggy and error prone.
Absolute thieves these clown devs..they recently shadow banned me for asking for a refund, they can do it again who cares! -
I like DD and thinks there's lots of content that's fun to play, especially Events.
My biggest issue is that there's not enough reason to use most of the rewards you get. I know you can build "theme teams" for fun, and I love constructing teams...but you need more reason to use the non-elite cards. I know that BR and Events give you a little of this, but I still have a tough time finding good uses for most of my binder.

best DD since 21

Yeah, the problem isn’t the direction they are headed. The problem is that the game seemingly isn’t headed in ANY direction. The only thing that they’ve really changed the last few years is the increased emphasis on more and more packs. Programs are always accompanied by packs that have better cards in them. The way they handle packs has also led to an inflated amount and difficulty needed to complete live series collections. The odds are low, but they are probably what they state. The problem is that they include low-level diamonds from the other series which lessens the likelihood of receiving live series diamonds. I’ve played this game for many years and I’ve completed live series quite a few times; the last 3 years I’ve pulled fewer and fewer live series diamonds. They are creating a situation where the game is getting very tedious and not rewarding enough. I’m sitting at 350k or so season XP after playing what seems like a whole lot relative to other seasons in other years. Not enough XP for playing games and I have very few live series diamonds after opening a lot of packs.

SDS will never win here because we all want different things from the mode.
That said:
I feel the game has settled into the grind to get stubs to buy cards cycle that made last year's game dull. The whole concept of "grind 99" is gone at this point (granted its always been a pretty dumb slogan to begin with) and now its login for a couple hours every week, complete the week's content, and then grind for stubs to buy cards to complete collections.
And as others have alluded to, the stub grind is RNG dependent. So if you spend an hour and 15 doing a miniseason run and only get a 400 stub gold from your 10+1, it feels like you wasted time. There are no medium, let along long, term guide for cards directly outside of the lone TA drop.
And I still don't understand why people like innings at all. One of the most boring battle passes I have ever seen.
I want more interesting (interesting to me, some would say tedious) grinds again, but that makes me no longer the target audience for this mode which sucks for me but is good for others.

WBC has 100% carried so far this year. I will stand by this till I decide to put away the ps5 for good one day mlb has not been casual since pre Fortnite. Fortnite ruined video games as we know it and made them all about sweating and grinding things out. Which post Fortnite has made every gaming community very toxic just my opinion but mlb was much better in the earlier titles like the show 18 19 for example. or if u wanna go back even further before dd was even a thing like for example my first shows as a kid 08/09/10 those shows where rly fun no grinding at all. Just casually pick up my controller or at the time psp and just sit on the couch on my weekends home from school and just do a franchise or homerun derby what I would give to go back to that . Simple times.
-
DD is unquestionably the casual ultimate team mode.
Much less grinding, exponentially less fomo, less forced difficulty offline, etc
Toxicity in gaming is everywhere. MMORPG communities are pretty tame these days (especially non WoW ones) compared to gaming in general. Mostly because there hasnt been a good MMORPG released in over a decade. Check out the gacha communities if you want to see some absurd toxicity
-
@Teak2112_MLBTS as somebody who plays all ultimate team mode dd is by far the most casual I can agree with that.
-
I’ve completely givin up on 2k don’t think madden will be on the agenda this year both way to big of money grabs and toxic

Last 13 mini seasons runs I have got 3 diamonds totaling 26k and that is pulling PCA on my 13th run. I'll keep playing because I love baseball but as far as rewarding, this game is not. After selling pretty much everything I can and doing everything I can I finally finished A.L. Still need like almost every diamond on N.L. which is what 1.2 million (haven't done the actual math but it is a lot). At the rate of my last 13 mini seasons runs I would need to do about (1.2 million/30k for diamonds, golds, etc/13 runs) 3,076 runs if my math is correct. That is beyond ridiculous. I have also done every TA (not #1 fan) to 100%. Maybe a math guy can tell me if that is correct. This pretty much proves my statement that if you don't spend money, get extremely lucky pack pulls, flip or can do 10 win br runs, it is extremely difficult to do the collections. Maybe DQ is the best mode with my pack pulls but I can't stand playing a mode for what 2 hours and maybe getting nothing.
As far as events, I would like to see some creativity. Like all silver, gold, live series only, etc.
-
Its supposed to be extremely difficult to do live series, I think people are a bit too obsessed with finishing it in April or May.
SDS does need to do a better job to ensure Tulo is still a top card by the end of August though. Which we all know wont happen since they dont juice these cards like they do later 99s
I guess this highlights that the Live Series collection is itself stale, but its also one of the key identities of the mode and probably 50-75% of SDS's revenue for the mode
