Guitar Progress
-
I just got a Donner Left-Handed Acoustic (need I say I'm a lefty) about a month and a half ago. I just kind of wanted to record my progress somewhere. Anyway, here's what I've learned so far:
Smoke On The Water - Deep Purple (riff) - the National Anthem for beginners - aka 0-3-5
Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes (riff)
Wonderwall - Oasis - I love how your pinky and ring finger stay planted for pretty much the whole song - the strumming pattern was a [censored] to learn ngl but I finally got it - we're getting kicked out of GuitarCenter with this one, boys (iykyk)!
(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones (riff) - this one actually taught me some decent pinky coordination so thank you, Keith.
Feel Good Inc. - Gorillaz (bass riff) - I decided to learn the bassline on acoustic since it's pretty iconic and easy to play. It also slaps.
25 or 6 to 4 - Chicago (riff) - another easy one-finger riff.
Sunshine Of Your Love - Cream (riff) - gotta love Clapton.
Nothing Else Matters - Metallica (intro - in-progress) - this is definitely a rite of passage if you want to progress to the next level. It's a lot of finger plucking instead of general strumming, a lot of quick fretting, it's definitely not easy but it's one of my favorite songs and it's doable.
I do want to get electric kind of soon since I'm a rock-dude, electric is definitely easier to play than acoustic (more forgiving strings, less action which means less buzz) and it helps learn finger technique and speed. I think once I finally learn the intro to Nothing Else Matters I might consider getting a budget electric. -
Buddy of mine just picked up a guitar about a month ago and he asked me if theres anything he could do to help (ive played bass for 20 years). First thing i told him was to get a finger/hand exerciser off Amazon. You dont realize just how useless your pinky is until you try to play guitar.

I need to get my guitars out. A few years back I had a finger issue that kept a finger on my fretting hand in a splint for over 6 months. I put the guitar in the case and tucked it into the corner and have not pulled it out since.
