Around 2/3 of players released today have 125 in contact or clutch

But we cant give Ozzie Smith a 99, or even 89, fielding?

What does it matter? 85 fielding is perfectly fine, especially if Ozzie finally has some solid hitting. In reality, 85 to 99 isn’t that much of a difference. Sure it’s a little unrealistic but DD in itself is unrealistic

In the big scheme of things it does not matter. It does not matter to the vast majority of MLB: The Show players. It does not make a ton of difference in game. It does matter to some of us Cardinals fans.
Defense is the reason Ozzie is in the Hall of fame. Nerfing his defense is no different than nerfing Lou Brocks Stealing (Oh wait....) -- Ricky Henderson's stealing. No different than nerfing Tony Gwynns contact or Hank Aarons power. It is kind of his Ozzie's Signature trait.
There are 268 players and 44 shortstops in the game with better defense than a 13 time gold glove winner and someone whose nickname "The Wizard" was based on his defense.
I think his 125 contact attribute and 125 Power Attribute could have been reduced at least 5 points each if they could be applied to Fielding to get it closer to where it needed to be. You could always regain those points by getting him to P5
