Drafts packs a massive rip off
-
This was the biggest crock of [censored] ever. 75k exclusive pack, limited time only. Followed by a 30k limited time only. THEN you put out a 30k pack with 3 cards in it for a week?
Where is the value? I’m confusing and pissed. I think I spent 400k and I got maybe 200k in value.
Something about this is terribly wrong.
-
@Ericulous1_XBL congratulations! Glad you were able to take advantage of the opportunity.
I should have been more specific. The window to flip these cards appear to be gone. Just checked margins. In general, they aren’t there. Might have been earlier, but many of the margins are “under water” (I think that is the term)
It’s similar to what’s going on with LS cards. No margins.

I agree that the optics on this are not that great but I wonder if people thought twice before buying packs?
Did you really think that SDS was going to offer 4 of the best cards from the draft for only 4 hours and then pull them from the market completely? Making the Draft Collection impossible for everyone else who did not, or could not buy a pack during that window?
Again, this is not a defense of the practice, as they absolutely preyed on people's fear of missing out (FOMO) or their greed (those who purchased packs thinking that the prices would only go up). They never actually said that these packs were the only way that we were going to be able to get these cards but they also did not say that they would be more readily available 6 hours later. They were purposefully vague.

I don't consider the pack a ripoff move by SDS at all, and I am anything but an SDS apologist. As with everything else in life, there is a price for convenience and the inability to wait for something. I am an old guy, nearly 60 years old, and back in the day we had to learn to wait for things. There was rarely instant gratification. You wanted the news, you had to watch television at 6p and 10p. If something happened after 10p, you found out in the next mornings paper. You wanted some trivial fact of information, you got in the car, or drove your bike to the library to look it up in a reference book, which was probably 5+ years old itself. You didn't carry around a personal computer with you all day, like now with smartphones. The pack was presented on the "Not Live" SDS stream exactly correctly. They said that there would be an all-encompassing pack released later in the night that would have all of the same cards as the first two packs and more, and that the first two would be more expensive, but you would have your choice of cards, and you would get to use them earlier. I have $1.2M stubs and less than a month before Madden 26 launches, so I was perfectly fine with paying $75K for the Cardinals draft pick. It does sting a little to see the card available this morning for $25K, but as I said, $50K in stubs was the price for the fun I had using the card last night. Money well spent for me. Not everything is about "flipping" or "investing", or a "virtual card holding it's value". Just to be clear, it is virtual and since I didn't spend a dime to acquire those stubs, and can't sell the cards for real money, it has no "value" for me.

My opinion (FWIW): SDS is free to do whatever they like with regards to the game. I’m fine with that.
However, I don’t ever recall them doing something like this previously. ( I go back to 2021). Those 75k cards crashed “almost instantly “. In the past, those cards would have held their value longer
Again, that’s fine by me. Just something new ( I think). The card market has been “different “ this year ( in general) so this is something to remember going forward within the game.

All packs are a rip off, not sure why people buy them
-
Luckily I didn't buy any of the packs because I only had 31k stubs at the time. Plus I felt that 75k was too much for a draft pack

Let’s be honest , what they’ve done is ensure that flipping these Draft cards is next to impossible.
That's what they've done to flipping this year in general. Nice big ol' d!ck kick. Still possible, just harder to find the right ones to flip
-
People still don't get it. If you are going to tell people that there are going to be repeatable packs available then say exactly what will be in them. Don't ignore that important detail and offer 75k packs and 30k packs a few hours before the content drops. Just drop it all at the same time and let people decide. SDS knew what they were doing there.
-
NEVER buy packs, I bought Doyle just to give him a test run and sold him right back with only a 3-4K loss with the 10% factored in. I will get him back once he is lower
-
@Ericulous1_XBL This game is an absolute joke this year. Whole game is collections. Hey, we'll give you 10 cards but you need 30. You have to buy the rest or get the .000001% pack pull. And we are going to limit how many stubs you can get. So for that 100k collection reward, you need to pull 30 diamonds before you can get there.
Connections are trash as usual.
Very unrewarding game.
Just a really bad game this year. Hopefully, people remember this next year and don't fall for the massive marketing campaign that you will 100% see next year. If they don't take a hit next year for this year, it will only get worse.
-
@capardo_XBL have you been flipping a lot? I’ve found some decent flip opportunities recently. I did check the margins and you’re right, a lot of them have disappeared
-
@reardons_MLBTS I definitely appreciate this post and can relate. I’m 43 so I definitely didn’t grow up with the instant gratification technology but it was introduced in My young adulthood. The only thing that bothers me is the way it was represented. I made stubs off the move so it worked in my favor.
-
I didn’t think they would pull the pack from the market, but I thought it would be more difficult to get like a Chase Pack.

That would have made the collection nearly impossible for the vast majority of the player base.

In years past the 99 HR Derby winner pack and the ASG MVP pack were rare which inflated the prices of those cards. I think many of us were going on that assumption here and were wrong.
Whatever at this point, but it took some of the luster out of what is traditionally the best MLB the Show weekend of the year.
-
@Ericulous1_XBL not a lot, but took notice of margins when you mentioned they were “better” in a post a few days ago. Was able to flip some cards (Topps now, Spotlight in particular), but those margins appear to have closed. I’ll keep looking! It’s encouraging that things are definitely starting to open up.
-
I know I’m going to be in the minority here, but I like that they offered the packs last night. They told us that they would be giving us a repeatable pack in the conquest that would have all the cards in it. It ended up being better than I expected, which is great. I like that.
I bought one 75k pack last night because I wanted to use that new Eli card and I’m glad I did. That was the whole point, you can get and choose the card(s) you want out of the gate.
Going in, I knew things would be earnable and cheaper because they told us so, so I payed for what I wanted, got what I wanted, and was able to play with the card well before I would have been able to. That was fun for me.
Now today I’ll work through the conquest, probably twice at least, and finish the program.

Yes they did.
"We have another program that's going to drop after the draft and a Conquest map that's going to have a repeatable mission for the all-encompassing MLB Draft pack"
-
Even if you knew nothing other than the information available in game, VERY shortly after the packs were up, you could buy every card in both packs cheaper than the packs. If you bought a pack that you knew couldn't contain anything worth as much as you paid for the pack, that's on you. They were time, not quantity, limited. There is zero excuse for anyone that didn't bother to check the prices of the contents of the packs before buying them. Was it a questionable release? Yes. Did they actually hide anything or mislead in any way about it? No, they did not. It's not exactly front page news that a pack wasn't worth it. Very few packs are ever worth it.
