Chipper Jones has been revealed as the First boss for the 5th inning. No card art, they just showed a video.

I'm guessing Muncy is the lightning, he is the type of guy they would have put in spotlight otherwise

I put these in the first post but here they are as well

Maybe it will be Muncy but I am not sure how you leave out the two guys who had the highest averages for the month. Both only have their live series card.

Yandy Diaz hit .400 and was second only to Soto in wRC+
    Tyler Freeman hit .373

Muncy hit .333 which was 13th. Plus he's got two cards already and we are getting ready to get a bunch of Dodgers ALL Stars (3 players are starters).

If they do it then it's not going to bother me too much (I have not been keeping up anyway) but I wonder how they would justify ignoring the two best averages for the month playing for teams that could desperately use cards in favor of all of these other guys.

Did they give the lightning to people that 90% of baseball fans have never heard of before sets and seasons? I just cant picture them giving the first 97 of the year to....Tyler Freeman

Diaz is at least more of a known name, but Muncy is one of those 'good swing' guys that will go over well enough for a lightning.

Sometimes they did yes. In fact guys that would be considered stars who would inevitably get a highly rated card regardless rarely got the Lightning Card. It changes up a little when the lightning cards become 99 overall cards but I am not sure we are there yet.

But it's not just about Muncy, there are 11 spotlight cards shown above that would also have been chosen over these two. For them to not be included at all would be, and I am going to use a phrase I actually hate seeing people use, "A slap in the face" to the Rockies and Rays fans.

I will say now, that it could be Soto since he did not make the all star team. But he is one of those players who will get a 99 card at some point anyway. But he would deserve it over Muncy

Unless they get Brooks Lee to around 30k with packs the retro lightning will be expensive anyway.

Hopefully this chipper will be better then the ranked chipper because his stats were basically a platune.

Both those teams have gotten a LOT of Topps now love though, with the Rockies recently getting a POTM program capper

plenty of teams have been slapped int he face all year, I'm still very salty that neither Nimmo or Peterson's Topps now were used (and the card they gave Nimmo in that DQ was far worse than the TN would have been)

But things go in cycles, look at the recent Red Sox Topps Nows

I find it hard to believe the guy who has the 6th best Offensive WAR in baseball isnt going to get a spot on the team. That would be one heck of a snub

Wood, Tatis, Soto, and Pages I assume will all make it still. I guess the x Factor is Stowers may be the Marlins rep, but I assume theyll give that to Cabrera

Agreed! Great card. Crazy price. Kind of ridiculous a spotlight card is more expensive than World Series rewards.

Trout will make it too on the al side, players won't leave him out if he's healthy,
The only question is do the players vote devers or Schwarbs as the NL dh

Well, that is the catch isn't it? Someone is always going to get snubbed. You listed a potential 5 outfielders. Only 3 of them can be voted in as backups by the players. And if everything goes perfectly (meaning all teams are represented) the commissioners office only has room to choose 2 position players.

Should has played a very minor part of their lightning decisions over the years, especially with power creep back in. Let me ask you this. I am am not convinced that the lightning player will be a 99. I am thinking it will be a 97. Do you really want a 97 Soto if that means you have to wait until the end of the season before they give him a 99 card? Because that would be a likely scenario.

Honestly Soto should get a 96 or 97 of some kind now (I assume it would be a pack all star 96), a 98 or 99 with the Yanks or Nats, and then a Finest or playoff 99

Limiting a star player to just 2-3 cards a year is just bad design.

Pretty excited about the Chipper card. Looks like Headley is going to the bench for now.

Isn't Chipper an inning boss like every year? I'll pass and hope the other bosses are better.

I'm actually more excited for the Spotlight players. I'm excited for CJ Abrams for gameplay reasons and Carlos Narvaez for Red Sox fan reasons.
