I was told 2 things coming into mlb 25 personally by devs, that this game would be far less pack oriented, and that the best cards would cycle the game. How that what an understatement. The best cards are in chase packs, and collections. This is how it was the last 2 years. They tried to change, but by the sets and seasons every week better was coming. This kept pack flow high. And what did they do? They stuck with it, leaving no new way to play the game. They need to get back to the basics mlb 20-mlb 21 era, where the best cards where bosses and free cards, not pack content. This has become such an issue that more than 50 percent of content drops are in packs, do any of you feel this way too?

I have a friend who was invited to the early access launch thing, whatever you want to call it, so he got the info, and forwarded it to me, my bad

    🤔

I don’t think that was an honest mistake.

I hope it won’t change. DD has been the best and most awarding online sports mode for several years.

@Tylerslikewhoa_XBL not really? I just lost a game where I had multiple perfect perfect and [censored] hit over 100+ mph exit velo for out while this dude walked me off on a change up that somehow made it past my 5 and 6 at 70 mph exit velocity. Game is garbage

    @JDoty31_PSN No, I do not …

Nothing was promised in any way. They promised a power-creep, we got one.
Yes, the best cards are chase and spotlight cards and collections. The latter was nearly always the case and it was always hard to get them (as it should be).

So far so good (your argument). But I do not see the problem. In a power creep, „work“ should be rewarded. I would not like, if - in a power creep - 50% of the player base get every card right away. Put in the work, have some luck (I know 🙂 ) and you will have all the cards.

But you should not expect to have every card right away. I got Rolen 6 weeks after he was launched, I got Ted 2 weeks after release … If it would have been more weeks, I would have been fine too, because I am not a good player and those rare cards will not net me any more significant number of wins …

Cards will not do that, it is your thumbs

Either greed won out in the end or the Sony suits overruled the original plan and said terrible packs and microtransactions are happening whether SDS wanted to or not.

    I totally agree with this.
I understand that its a business, but The Show has gone from user-friendly to what it is now: a 'radical change,' ala the Tremonti song. It's went from a NMS paradise to 'we want you to spend.' 'WWYTS!' Something is definitely up, when Spotlight packs always give you a Topps Now Card instead, every. Single. Time! I did pull that Brewers pitcher, who the Mets smacked up at Citi Field yesterday, and the immortal Kody Clemens, a few weeks ago. That's it! You want Bruce Lee's brother, Brooks? Whip out the credit or debit. Stick 'em up! 🤪
I may have pulled the top tier twice, in all the Spotlight packs I've opened. The feeling when you rip open one, and see purple lights is unmatched!!

Your game logs show that you are exaggerating.

Have people not figured out yet that certain users are trolls?

Note that responding to a troll can get you banned but trolling itself is apparently ok by forum guidelines

It's useful to put things into perspective. The data on sales and revenue for these companies has become very tightly guarded. We only have until MLB 22 for actual reported numbers, but since MLB The Show was introduced, the title has garnered between 1.3 to 2 million sold units. In addition, since with MLB 21's introduction making the title available for XBox, the Gamepass subscription service netted SDS another 3.5 to 4 million downloads. It is not publicly released how much Microsoft paid SDS for each download.

Nevertheless, SDS decided with MLB 25 to decline Gamepass. One would think that was a revenue based choice, but you never really know.

The point is that SDS exists on an annual sales-based revenue stream of somewhere in the zone of $75 to $100 million each year. So, does SDS really draw in a significant post sale revenue stream from people spending actual money for stubs? I mean that's the only way it would happen, and I don't suspect that would amount to much.

It seems that SDS volunteered to surrender a lot more revenue by passing on XBox Gamepass this year.

I would say its a 99% chance that the monetization is driven by Sony and not SDS. And SDS aren't the ones making the revenue, its all passed up to Sony.

It wasn't heavily monetized for a long time because it was a PS exclusive, and a system seller.

Once the game was no longer a PS exclusive things changed, and this was not a coincidence.

Exactly. This makes all the sense in the world to everyone that’s been around for years and chooses not to use every excuse in the book to let SDS and Sony off the hook for their deviation off the customer friendly path they were once well known for.

Que the shills to come say at least it’s still better than Madden or 2K.

It’s so bizarre to see the amount of people defending the game with such vigor. Stockholm Syndrome in action…Just wow.

I'll defend SDS specifically on the topic of monetization because I feel that's Sony's fault entirely (and will not defend Sony at all on this). its nearly universal that its the publisher behind stuff like this.

There are other things to lay on SDS, such as mini seasons still being a mess after several years. And even this is probably partially Sony's fault for not allowing SDS more programmers.

I don't put this on just Sony, I think MLB has been a big driving force behind the changes we have seen, starting with going multi platform....

    Is it though?

I don't play those at all. Shoot I don't even play this one that much anymore.

I would say that worse than the shills who defend it (especially if they are being genuine) are the ones who condemn it but still buy and play the game every year. They are just as responsible as the shills for the path that is being traveled by Sony and SDS.

@TripleH-4481_PSN PGA Tour 2k25 is 2K and I feel rewarded a lot more than this. I have 320 hours in the show and can't even complete LS. I have 358 in PGA Tour 2k25 and have everything I need and more to compete. This game is pathetic when it comes to rewards. Look at the rewards for the 600 weekend classic. I can get what is likely a non-sellable rewind, a June spotlight (highly likely a Topps card) and an 85+ LS (lets be honest it will be a LS worth 3k stubbs).

For the person that said collections and chase cards players don't make you better. I will just say that is not very intelligent. You will have WAY more success with Beltran, Turner, Hodges, Clemens, Santana, Castro (the list goes on and on) than you would with the program cards that you can obtain. To say otherwise is just idiotic.

Oh and you will never convince me tyler does not work for SDS.
