I’ve been a diehard MLB the show player since 2019. It is quite literally the only game I played besides a bit of Fortnite and warzone. This year the game is just so dead. I complete a program just for collection purposes because the cards are lousy and not good enough to make my team. I then get blocked from completing these collection by expensive pack only cards. I’ve made World Series every season and gone flawless in BR and feel like I just don’t gain anything from it. To make things worse the gameplay is just flat out bad this year. The graphics are very outdated and everything moves slow as well as the game constantly freezing. This is all my opinion but I think this may be one of the worst MLB the show games to date. Was not a fan of sets and seasons but this year feels like more of a downgrade. It seems as if they are going down the same road as EA with madden and 2K with all the in game purchases. It is understandable from a business perspective but it is also unfortunate for much of the player base. The show community has turned into a bunch of sliding mit wearing 15 year old fanboys with mommy’s credit card [censored] on you for sharing your opinion in this forum.

Take a year off and stop playing.

I started in 2020 when COVID shut things down and played that game along with 21 and 22 religiously from launch up until the day the next game released. Then 2023 introduced Sets & Seasons and I found myself really just not having fun playing anymore. I turned that game off for good in late July. Picked back up last year for 24 which I enjoyed although again the Sets & Seasons format really dragged the overall enjoyment down.

Actually finding myself having a really fun time with this year's game because it reminds me a lot of entries like 20 with the power creep element as well as reintroducing the collections for specific card series which I was always a fun of. Also, I just don't take the game too seriously anymore. Used to feel like I had to get certain cards as soon as possible and needed to complete everything immediately, but just playing for fun is the best reasoning in my opinion. Still a while away from Beltran along with Ted and that's fine, they'll come along eventually.

You're burnt out and not having fun. No harm in putting the game down.

@SakAttack87_PSN I agree. This is the only video game I play. From time to time the game gets so dumb I have to walk away. Last year I walked away when the OOP cards came out. A few years ago (can’t remember which year) I walked away for 6 months. This year everything is so [censored] expensive I’ll probly walk again. It’s a shame cuz they got a good product but it seems they find a way to screw it up every year.

There are two sides to this.

Burnout is a real, especially in a game that is inherently repetitive. I would imagine its even worse for a god squad focused player, i cant imagine using the same cards long past p5 levels.

But yes, the game has gotten worse from a monetization viewpoint. The ratio of pack cards to program cards is atrocious. And while the game isn't yet pay to win, its certainly a lot more tedious to be a competitive free player than it used to be and the trajectory should be obvious. They are a long way from EA or 2K (which has now started releasing event cards every 2 weeks that are impossible to earn and probably cost at least 1K), but I think we are 1 or 2 years away from not being able to call the came not pay 2 win anymore.

I do think SDS tried some new things this year, but for me most of them feel flat. DQ makes the game worse for me because its cannibalized the other offline mode's rewards, I have yet to, and probably will never, play a game of weekend classic, and the my journey TA goals are just too far apart. And Topps Now and Spotlight were changed last year, it was absolutely awful, and they have doubled down on it this year.

But the content team is still capable of wins, Moonshot and Color Storm back to back was great.
