Weekend classic freeze off

How are people able to intentionally freeze the game if they’re going to lose? I’m a single strike away from winning a game and the guy froze it, and is now messaging me that he’s not going to leave. I really need this win and I’m literally winning the game, HOW IS THIS NOT JUST AN AUTOMATIC WIN?? I genuinely don’t know what I’m supposed to do right now

Well, the obvious answer is wait longer than the other guy, but the real problem is that SDS allows this to be a thing in the game. I am not sure how the freeze-off works, but every time I have had someone pause the game on me, the timer runs down and then the games asks me if I want to make them forfeit. If I say yes, I get the win. If I say No, then we keep waiting.

We can't assume he's the one who CAUSED the freeze-off. Take into account that Weekend Classic is stupid and its servers are terrible. BUT, there is a way he could've done it. I've actually caused a freeze-off on accident myself. The one way you can do it is if you're on PSN, you either hit a home run or give up a home run, press X and then the PS Button at the same time, and sometimes it can occur. I've once checked my game base in the middle of a homer and then, boom.
