Well, nobody asked for it, but here's a boring read on how I feel about the game (so far)
The TL;DR - it isn't and wasn't ready to be released. The beta played better than the current version of this game does.
Hitting: hitting FEELS much different than 19, but the outcomes of batted balls and swing feedback aren't. There are narrower timing windows, which helps increase the skill gap, which is a good thing in theory, but isn't implemented well in this game. Pitch speeds are all over the map. Timing windows don't make a lot of sense game to game and even swing to swing. It makes self assessing and adjusting needlessly difficult and frustrating, because many times, you don't have a clear understanding of what you should be doing differently.
Pitching: not fun. Pitching is normally my strength, but not this year. Pitcher attributes matter more this year, except when they don't. I can't tell you how many times I've tried to put a curve in the dirt and it's gotten crushed, even with high control pitchers. Losing borderline pitches to balls means you have to bite off more strike zone, which, in conjunction with the lack of command of pitches, means it gets hit a long way. Stamina is broken. Relievers are required to face 3 batters but are drained by the 2nd batter, resulting in larger PCIs and loss of confidence, which, in turn results in loss of effective pitching.
Fielding: not fun. Beyond broken. The faster meter was a nice touch, but I can't tell you how many times gold and diamond rated fielders have made costly errors at key moments, costing me runs and games. Or there's been a stupidly lax animation where a normal human would have some semblance of urgency. This isn't a secret by now, but fielding is by far the biggest issue in this game right now imo.
Other stuff: game breaking boundary rules like ground rule home runs and runners advancing several bases on passed balls. Lag in online play can be horrible. Etc.
All in all, I feel like a lot of this game's outcomes are out of my hands. I feel like either good luck or bad luck matters more than skill. I feel like this game wasn't ready to be released. Yes, there's a global shutdown and it's likely more difficult than ever to fix broken software. Usually, this is my main game. But with how.... clunky this game is right now, I'm not having much fun and have been spending more of my free time not playing this game than I ever thought.

Well said. Timing windows yea. Im for trying to create a bigger skill gap, but there are times im just not sure when im suppose to swing at the ball. Thing about sliders is when you mess with them too much without enough testing it tends to create inconsistent and clunky gameplay which we have. I know this from experience, constantly adjusting sliders in games like 2k.

Yup fielding is beyond frustrating right now. The whole having your player right under the ball just to see it bounce off their head or be 5 feet away from where the shadow of the ball originally was and then o hey look it's now rolling to the wall well the runner rounds 2nd is so annoying. Plus the commentary for it "and he drops it" it's like they are laughing at us.

The beta man, I loved that thing so much that I almost considered emailing SDS about the possibility of them keeping it until 20 actually came out. I loved that thing, however, day one of 20 will probably end up having been the best game version we've seen this year
Not even joking I've dreamt of playing 20 before it was this bad because I miss it so much

Really accurate summary of this years game. I agree with everything you’ve said, pretty much what I’ve been preaching for a while.

Thank God they didn't add Smoltz for his bad jokes.

As someone who’s played mostly franchise for years and just now getting into online play, I think most of these problems are online only, which by the way, is a huge pain. Why is this the only sports game with tremendous lag? A fastball coming in at 99, you need to truly guess fastball (not using the feature) to smash it, unless you’re lucky. And I’m a good player offline on Legend +. Base running online is also a [censored] show. All sorts of base running errors happen.

I'm playing the Astros in conquest right now and it's had everything stacked against me. Outfielders not moving. 2 run homerun from Springer way out of the strike zone, hit ball off my players head, tag from my second basemen and somehow the runner is safe. How is this fun for anyone? It's comical.
