Can someone please explain the lack of face scans this year?

@PAinPA_PSN some people don’t realize that this isn’t a 15 man roster for each team like the NBA. Each roster on the show consists of 93 players so the level of difficulty for SDS to get scans for every player in this game is unimaginably difficult and as you said the players have to be willing. They are better than any other sports game when it comes adding scans throughout the year and getting them added in during the offseason. 2K you could argue is better but it’s much easier due to the roster sizes.
Do I wish more players especially younger ones got added in sooner? Of course. But SDS does way more than people realize when it comes to scans. You can back date on my account on old posts and see all the scans added/updated in 24 as proof. And now my posts to kick off 25 that will only grow as the months move on.

@Shua2168_MLBTS they also don’t just pick and choose random players that they do or don’t wanna add in. Efforts are made to get as many players added in as possible but it all comes down to the players at the end of the day. The players have to be willing to get scanned in and sometimes it’s about right or wrong timing during Spring Training. Yes it’s frustrating so many young players are missing scans but there were a boat load added in after release last year. I wouldn’t be surprised to see that be the case again this year.

Maybe they need to change their approach then if it's not efficient. That's generally what businesses do or else they die. In this case SDS is fortunate they don't have any competition but that could change if they keep releasing the same abomination every year. Some of the player models in this game are downright insulting. Bones protruding out of their face, smiles that only a mother could love...I'd estimate the player models are at least 10 years behind. Shouldn't have to get players in studio either with where technology is at nowdays. A couple of pictures from a couple different angles and consent is really all they should need. Can it be complicated logistically? Absolutely. But let's not pretend like it's some monumental unattainable task. Other games been pulling it off better for a long time now.

And also this notion that they can only accomplish a face scan during spring training is complete absurdity. What's stopping them from sending a rep to a game and snapping some some pictures? Or just using existing pictures from MLB footage? Think outside this box. I see this constant rhetoric of "SDS only had 8 months to develop the game" and it's nonsense. Development should be a constant process this game is a live service.

I completely agree with a lot of that. Why they only scan players in during Spring Training never made much sense to me. And then those Spring Training scans don’t get added in until the following year makes it even more confusing. So for context those scanned in during this current spring training we won’t get them in game until the Show 26. I’m not saying it’s a monumental task to get players scanned but it’s harder than you and I realize. I’ve complained about it for years and years, and I take pride in this area of games more than most. But they can’t just refer to technology to get scans as convenient as that would be, and as much sense as that would make.
They have to get the player’s approval and consent to use their likeness. A big reason why 2K sports hasn’t had Ant Edwards in 2K. He’s never been willing to come get scanned and never wanted to be in their game. That’s eventually just led to someone from 2K trying to make the closest scan possible to resembling him.
The one thing I agree most on is the player models. The creation suites and things like that are so far out of date it’s not even funny. We’ve had the same hairstyles for the most part, facial hair options, head styles, etc for WAY TOO many years with no signs of that ever getting improvement.

You do realize that they only do face scans during spring training (unless the player travels to the studio during the season)and that it up to the player to have it done and it's not mandatory so the player can say no?
Does anybody wanna tell him Mike Trout didn’t let them have his real face in the game until like 2019?

That's a lot of work checking out those without face scans. Keep up the good work, lol.

Now maybe the technology has changed (it probably has seeing as how fast technology improves) but the MLBPA had an article from 2019 stating that to get the face/head scans required a 360 degree setup with 46 cameras.
So not something you just say "Fly across country, we have a couple of players on an east coast team than needs face scans." Maybe if the team is playing the Padres in San Diego then maybe. It is certainly more involved than snapping a few pictures.

It requires a 360 degree setup with 46 cameras? Somehow that sounds improbable to me. My guess is whatever software and technology they were using in 2019 was outdated then and archaic now, like all the other systems in their game. Explain to me why we need a 360 degree view when none of the back or side their heads look realistic anyway? I mean come on have we seen the hair models? Manny's dreads look like a woman's hair from a 2018 game and STILL are somehow not optimized 8 years later and causing frame drops like what on earth are we talking about. There are plenty of games with more realistic models that use ZERO face scan technology. And you mean to tell me they are taking all these pictures from every angle imaginable and STILL ended up with models that look this bad? If anything that just strengthens my original point about it being inefficient and needing to change.
Mlb already has existing high quality footage of 99% of these guys...Can you explain to me why we can't use that instead of pestering players and expecting them to fly across the world just to be in your game? Get real. Paying a couple employee's plane tickets to go to a game and set up a little tent is a small expense for a company like this, especially if it means significantly improving their product. If you go the right games you can probably knock out multiple players on multiple teams.
