DD Deep Dive Video Just Dropped: Grade A-!

@GradektheBard_PSN I don’t spend a dime on this game after paying up for the deluxe addition. I regularly have every card within a few weeks. The MLB, NL and AL rewards are typically the only top cards that really matter. No, cards are not more important than skill. I’m a pretty good player and I’ve been completely dominated by people with significantly worse cards. If someone wants to drop a thousand dollars for an advantage, go ahead. It doesn’t bother me at all. They need to make money if we want this game to make improvements. Crying about it will never change that. They aren’t going to abandon their best way to make money, so I’m not going to waste any more breath on it.

Not sure if im misunderstanding this or not but it looks like Team Affinity is just gonna be one year long program. Theres at least, from what i can see, 715K points on the Mets "Journey" so i would assume its probably gonna be a million to complete. Thats the one thing i hated about 20....all the TA programs being separate and all requiring an insane amount of stats for each team.
-
so is TOPPS NOW just a new name? or will we still get topps now?
-
@LuvMyXBOX_XBL same thing with a fresh coat of paint. They’re just going to continually update the program during the month.
-
@GradektheBard_PSN if anyone is competing in weekend league and taking it seriously. That means they are good enough to go 12-0 a few times and literally buy the collection rewards and have the exact same team yourself. If you aren't good enough to be doing that. Then who cares if people have better teams then you in WL because that means you shouldn't be there anyways
️
-
@CanadianRaptor_XBL I do not think you have to be able to go 10-0 to „matter“ in the WL. Or having the cards (like another said) to be able to compete.
You are right … if you talk about the 800+ levels … but there are enough levels below for people to matter. I have gone 12-0 once (in 21 and that was pure luck) and I totally expect myself to challlenge people in those sub-800 levels … with my non-flipping no-money-spend-squad -

Correct. They'll update it at periodic points, but it'll be a lengthening of the existing path instead of a whole new one. (You remember how they would just add on to POTM/Topps Now programs last year? ... Like that.)

I don't mind. I much prefer TEAM Affinity vs. DIVISION Affinity, but then again I'm the odd duck that like 2018.

I dont mind the grind so much as i just didnt like the feeling of having to get everything done. Im guessing with the one online program, it'll take some of the pressure off this year. I just hope that its not TOO much of a grind like 20. Those 200 inning missions for 3 program stars just seemed to drag.
-
@Easy_Duhz_It__PSN The idea of it being too much to grind is crazy to me. Please give us too much. Give us unlimited things to do. Please.

Again i dont mind the grind. As long as there are no restrictions.
-
@Easy_Duhz_It__PSN We can agree on that. You should be able to grind the way you want to, difficulty and mode should matter for how long the grind takes. Playing online should be worth more than offline. Playing on HOF should be worth significantly more than rookie. Everything should be repeatable.
-
I'll watch the live stream today to see how I feel about things. Many times I feel like SDS overcompensates when they make these major changes. I am concerned that the grind will be a little too much for someone like me who falls somewhere between casual and hardcore (based on hours played).
I still have flashbacks to MLB 18 when I quit the game in May when I realized that the deck was stacked against anyone not wanting to devote a very significant amount of time to grinding.
-
@Dolenz64_XBL How can the grind be too much? You don’t have to finish everything. It’s way better to have too much than not enough. Last year felt like not enough all year. I loved 18 with the immortals.
-
Mlb 24 felt like homework honestly. I didn't hate the game but alot of times I felt like I was doing busy tedious tasks that resulted in no improvement of my team. I'm just trying to collect a ton of cards so eventually 2 months from now I'll get j roll and then lose him like 3 days later lol
I've played DD since 2020 and it never felt so much like busy work or homework as 24. I played alot of rookie cpu shield woods games just to get stats for the hell of it. I also feel like I finish a conquest map and then had to take another 20 mins to just Sim thru the non strongholds

Probably because it was my first year playing DD, but I am biased towards the individual team TA approach from The Show 20. You didn't just accumulate all of the division cards at once you had to really consider who you wanted to go after and the decision was not always easy. There were some REALLY good cards available at launch like 88-89 Gleyber/Gallo/Olson/Tatis which made it a tough choice.
Also, starting with TA3 I believe the cards became sellable which really added another strategic layer to your approach as to who to go for first.

Downgrade your expectations. The stream will more than likely focus exclusively on Diamond Quest and only 2-3 My Journey Programs. Did you notice in the Feature that the only Team Affinity path they showed was of the White Sox? That wasn't a coincidence. They're saving as many reveals as possible.
Most of the "good stuff" is in next week's Dev Tourney and Live Content streams.
-
@ref479ode_PSN I think the problem you’re mentioning from last years game is that team affinity never really felt like an upgrade. At best, there were a handful of useful cards each time, so it felt like busy work. We weren’t working for those cards. We working towards the collection. It needs to be both and I think it will flow better in that regard without sets and seasons.

I never finish everything. I never expect to finish everything. I never even attempt to finish everything. My first and only goal every year is to get all of the desirable Cardinals cards.
But we all have different thresholds and even definitions when it comes to what we consider grinding. I am sure my threshold is lower than many others here. When you tailor your content for the guys who invest 20-30 hours a week then the guy who spends 10-15 hours a week is going to begin to feel like they are just going to fall further and further behind.
I have always said that one of the biggest challenges facing SDS or any game company is finding the right balance to keep the most players possible engaged and not catering too much to the ultra hardcore or ultra casual.
-
@Dolenz64_XBL I don’t see how having a ton of content is hurting people who never plan to do everything anyways. I think having more than enough for even the hardcore players is best for everyone. The balance should be lots of small programs that casual players could pick and choose what they want to do while the hardcore guys have lots of programs to complete. More is always better.

That sentence I would be fine with, but label me as skeptical that they will be having more content than they have had in the previous two years when it comes to weekly content drops. If those weekly content drops just get longer and more difficult to complete then that will be where it becomes a grind for me.
