It was kind of depressing how few people used theme teams in the winter event that was designed for theme teams. The Mets team was great in that one. Oh no, you need to use a 97 Nimmo! Who with captain boosts hits as well as any 99 in the game without a team captain boost.
Also an issue with theme teams is the Mets are one of the very few teams with fully functional bullpens. No live series needed. Really the amount of relief pitcher cards needs to be at bare minimum doubled.
But back to the main point, people dont use theme teams simply because people are lame and feel the need to use teams perceived as meta, regardless of sets and seasons.
I find I have more fun using non meta teams simply because I don't really care if I win. When I use the God squad I'm sweaty palm sweaty pits and just trying too hard
Downside is I don't have familiarity with alot of swings outside of my God squad as I try to do the foot kick/stride timing method. Works much better when you're used to swings

How many teams have full bullpens like the Mets?
Since I started with the worst (and I am at the Cubs) … none … BUT: Some silvers and even bronzes did their job since they get massives boosts from their captains.
To answer your question some more: I do not know for now but I suppose all the playoff-teams should have a very good one -
@TeakAUS_PSN I just played a sweater with the cubs … My first reliever was Lee Smith (obviously :)) … since I faced an „I swing at everything very early Santana Boost“-guy, I wanted somebody with a cutter … Unfortunately I had to bring in Gold Jesse Chavez … He did a brilliant job … The game went to extras and I had to bring in Kerry Wood to nail the save :). The Cubs do have the reward path Aroldis Chapman though … so it is kinda okay

most fun: Athletics (since they are really bad but fun to build). So far the only team I went 3-0 with

my top 3 theme teams Ive used are: Reds, Dodgers & Orioles. The Phillies look like a pretty stacked team too but haven't used them yet.

If you want a real challenge, play 3 games with the Dbacks. Their pitching consists of only 2 good arms … I managed to win 2/3 because my opponent rage-quit a 2-0 game at shield woods after 1 Inning, denying my friendly and not checking my bullpen full of silvers
Next up: Braves, Mets, Orioles, Guardians (who I am really looking forward because their pitching is awesome)

Just went 4-0 with the Mets … and the biggest thing (and takeaway) for me is: I just got my rank to an all-season-high … Biggest Takeaway: The best cards will not help if you cannot play … I played a ton against big god squads and gave them silver/gold pitchers (ok, bumped ones). I will definitely go „no flip“ in 2025, this is really fun and I can only encourage people to do Theme teams

4 Teams to go (Brewers, Padres, Yankees, Dodgers).
The last few were pretty awesome. I went 12-5 with the DBacks (very bad bullpen), Braves (awesome all around), Mets, Orioles and Guardians.I really liked the Orioles. I even played an extra game and I went 4-0 with them. Lineup is awesome and I went crazy with Cal Ripken
… That has been the best part … playing with all the different cards and experiencing (just a small sample) which players you are doing good (or not).Second best part was setting up that record against 90% meta god squad teams with tons of switch hitters
I decided to play a whole rotation with the last 2 since both the Dodgers and Yankees have a whole team to play with (the Dodgers theme team is stacked).
After that I am really looking forward to doing experimenting with the new captains

Finished both 2-1 with Brewers (nice overall) and Padres (only 3 competitive SP) … and switched to a 5-game series now on …
I played 4 games that are really telling a lot about the game and/or people. I was 706 starting the Yankees series
- game got beat by a really good player although CC held my opponent down and I could not locate with Mo … that resulted in a very clear result.
- Second game … straight quit after 0 zero pitches (I suppose my opponent was tanking ranked levels)
- Rage quit after 2 batters faced against a switch-hitting god squad (second K was pretty nasty by Mussina
- Rage quit after 8 against a WS player. Pettite held him down pretty good and who else than Wade Boggs nailed the hold …
All games I faced either JohnD or Randy … Everybody‘s Lineup was stacked with Switch-hitters and only 1 had a captain going (Mullins in game 4).

Finished the Yankees with a 4-1 record and a season high 823 rank … allowed 1 hit with Cole over 7 IP and none other than Jose Trevino nailng down the save at Capital Lange …
Did I mention it, that those stadiums like Capital Lange and/or Shield Woods (I hit an off-pci HR with Gehrig) are a disgrace to this beautiful baseball sim …
Now on to the Dodgers. Kershaw got the nod for his game 1 start into the final 5-game-series
