New to MLB The Show - looking for folk to play with
-
First of all apologies if a post like this exists already, I couldn't find anything.
Secondly, I'm British and became obsessed with the Baseball since late 24 season, getting into it after I started playing this game and now I can't wait for the new season to start.
I've played tons of single player modes, making slight improvements on hitting but definately still got tons to learn, for example how to identify pitches and be able to hit pitches in and up in the zone.
I have tried multiplayer a few times, but I went in expecting nothing less than a tanking which is what I got and even as a beginner, it is no fun playing with folk who just want to demolish you.
Safe to say being in Scotland, I dont have any friends who like BB or play this game. So I am reaching out here to see if anyone is looking for someone to have casual games with, ideally with a view where we can both learn.
I'm 43, male and on PS5. Happy to share info if anyone has any interest.

Hey, nice seeing somebody else from this side of the planet (I am from Germany). I am not interested but I wanted to leave some advice:
- Use the next weeks to get a good feel for the game so you do not have to think about buttons etc.
- Use practice mode and make the cpu throw pitches you are bad on … a daily 15 minutes will help a lot
- There are few tipps&tricks youtube-videos out there. Go check them out too
- The early weeks of 25 will be much beginner-friendly since the player base will be bigger. Try and get into ranked then and use events (or whichever mode they do) where you can get more experienced)
- Play the game as much as you can
- Do not be afraid to lose online. Play. You will learn. Do not quit.

Glad that you’re getting into baseball in general and MLB The Show.
Even as a big fan of the sport, I’ve found that playing The Show is a wonderful way to learn about current players on teams that I don’t follow in real life - particularly rookies and prospects. Not sure how much you know about the history of the game as well so I’d figure playing with the legends in the game will help you learn about them as well.
The one thing I’d add on the advice side relates to the aforementioned practice mode.
I am by no means a good hitter in the game so I’m not speaking as an expert, but I think the first skill based dividing line in the game is being able to hit a good fastball up and in and not being intimidated by that.
Therefore, I’d recommend dedicating 2-3 30 minute sessions to doing the following:
-
Put the game on Legend difficulty for both batting and pitching.
-
Choose a right handed batter (for you to use) and then a right handed pitcher with a great fastball. (Perhaps one of the Legend team pitchers like Nolan Ryan)).
-
Narrow the pitches selection to a fastball in the upper and inner quadrant of the strike zone (so strikes - not in the “ball” area).
-
Practice hitting those pitches until you can consistently turn on them.
-
Then do the same think but choose a pitcher with a sinker with high velocity (98 mph or higher) and do the same thing.
-
Now flip to the left side and use a left handed hitter and pitcher.
If you dedicate 1.5 - 2 hours on Legend difficulty doing this you’ll gain the confidence to face the the hardest pitches in the game to hit - and often the first test that people look to take advantage of when facing folks online.
Good luck!
