The replacements featuring MLB players who replaced others during the MLB player strike:

    • Damian Miller
    • Brendan Donnelly
    • Cory Lidle
    • Kevin Millar

Me and a friend used to have to create Mets Rick Reed in Triple Play Baseball every season! We always created him to what would be a 99 in today's games!
Cory Lidle's passing really hit me hard. I think we had to create him as well. I remember finding out listening to 'Mike & the Maddog.' I couldn't believe it.
I don't think the union would want a card series like this, though.

Millar was one of my favorite players on that team. I lived it and watched the documentary. But his card would be as useless as Greg Vaughn or Richie Sexton in the video game.

See I actually loved that Greg Vaughn card. Hidden gem.

That's why I want SDS to sign more second tier stars. It would help with theme teams and there would be more hidden gems.

The Red Sox theme team is pathetic this year. And it's even worse when you try for an '04 Sox team.

How is it pathetic? Maybe in the Bull Pen.

Yeah, I'm not sure if the union is still petty in this regard; it would be a nice gesture, especially since Lidle's children were so young when he passed.

I really hope the theme of the first whatever replaces seasons is Fresh Start as a proper series

They should aim to give every team at least 2 or 3 of these.

Problem is that this is probably not possible. Not every team is adding players. I am not expecting the Cardinals to sign anyone or even get any MLB ready players back in trades. Even if they do it will be some backup player that nobody cares enough about to want a card.

They can give prospect cards for the trades.

Maybe not every team has a big enough player for it to be the TA set (I don't think Rockies fans will be excited for a Kyle Farmer as their main card). but it can certainly augment the roster of cards available for theme team building (Player or offline modes). Sure, an 85 Austin Nola isnt going to make someone's god squad, but its not like the rockies are getting any other theme team catchers anytime soon.

There are certainly enough mid tier players changing hands though, and it might be the only reasonable chance to give some of these guys cards related to the 2025 season. Especially relievers.

If nothing else, the game could use a large influx of lower diamonds to make more varied CPU opponents. This is one of the few things NBA2K does right. Yes, they can more easily license the older guys but they also have a healthy supply of players of all tiers to create CPU teams from

The "older" NBA players are in their 40s and 50s. All the Russell/Oscar/Wilt era legends have been picked clean. MLB has twice as much history as the NBA and thus has a much longer list of "no longer with us" legends where getting rights is much more difficult and costly.

I would love to have a game with every semi decent 80s/90s/00s player for MLB that I have watched over the years. This is what 2K does. However, the player unions are different so its not reasonable to expect The Show can do this, and MLB teams are bigger as well.

I wish there was a way where The Show could increase its revenue, and use that not to line Sony's pockets but to get legends, while still maintaining its relatively player friendly status. What that actually looks like though, I have no idea. I know what I personally would be willing to pay but its going to be different for other people

That game is Out Of The Park Baseball. But it is a computer based sim game where you have no control beyond that of a Manager or GM so most The Show players would not find it compelling.

I would love to see them put cards in from baseball movies. I.e. Major League, Bull Durham, The Natural, The Rookie, Sandlot, etc. I think that would be awesome!

They won't because they never played in the majors, that would be something for backyard baseball only

    Major League: Paramout Property
    Bull Durham: MGM Property
    Natural: Sony Property
    Rookie: Disney property
    Sandlot: Fox (now Disney) property

Roy Hobbs (and the Leagues of Their Own) are the only ones who have a chance to appear.
