Fairly certain you don’t have to have a debit card on file.
The million dollar question, what did he spend it on??
And good luck getting your money back. Usually I would say it won’t happen. But these are strange times we’re in, maybe they cut you a break. If it wasn’t spent, you may have a better chance if the stubs are still sitting in your account.

Ummm, it keeps your financial information on file for purchases on all accounts, dude. Either there is password autofill I am not aware of, or he guessed it. This is not my first rodeo.

I just deleted all my payment methods on my playstation account. You do not need a debit card stored to your account.

Definitely don't need a CC on your PlayStation.

For someone who doesn’t want a lecture you sure have no issue being condescending. With that out of the way, PlayStation policy, no refunds on micro transactions. DLC is also as strict but definitely not without a little breathing room.
You can try messaging SDS as suggested before but I wouldn’t expect much

At least it’s only $30!

$30 is a pretty inexpensive lesson learned these days. I once ran my parent's phone bill up to $400. I couldn't sit properly for a week.

I presume he guessed my password. I wish Sony wouldn't force you to put debit card info into an account.
Please don't lecture me, stuff happens in this world, no one is perfect. And Sony's site says due to the Pandemic, agents aren't available to process refunds when I tried contacting them.
I am trying to remain calm and remind myself I was a teenager once, and this is a stressful time for them, too.
This obviously doesn't help you right now, but as others have mentioned you can remove your credit card info from PSN and you may want to do so going forward. Kid purchases aside, it's still not something you really want to have stored on there. I haven't used a credit card on the Playstation Store since their big data breach back on PS3. I actually had some fraudulent charges made after that and had to get a new card.
These days I only use one credit card for online purchases, and whenever I want to purchase something on PSN, I buy a Playstation Store Gift Card through Amazon. It's digital and gets delivered in a matter of seconds, and then I just copy/paste the code into the Playstation Store. In this day and age it's virtually impossible to keep your credit card information off the web completely, but you can at least try to limit how many store fronts have access to it. If you use Amazon regularly anyway, then this method would help. In your case, it would also be one extra hoop someone else in your household would have to jump through in order to make purchases you don't approve of.

When I got a new card I left the old cards info on the account as the default card, so in case something like what happened , won't cause it go to an inactive card.
prob won't get your money back, but you can always give the kid extra chores and make him work it off, -

If i remember correctly he was grounded for at least a year after that along with some other punishment

At least you’re not Kendrick Perkins where his kids racked up 16 Gs on fortnite lmao. It's 30 bucks dude. Not even worth the hassle of trying to get in touch with Sony. If $30 is that important to you than I suggest you stop playing video games and find a better paying job or pick up some extra shifts.
-
Atleast you still got $1170 left. Amirite? Lol

Hey OP it could be worse check out this video.

My kid did it some time ago. I still make him mow the lawn every time he visits. I don't see him as much.
