The New "Evil Empire"?

Yes, the Dodgers are basically the new Yankees when it comes to the spending habits. It is why I will root against them almost always.
I'll root for the Cardinals first and then, if they are out, usually just pick the underdog teams to topple the big spenders.

Keep this in mind. I'm A Red Sox fan. I grew up calling the Yankees the Evil Empire for always outspending everyone to "buy championships".
And even I am wondering if the Dodgers are the new Evil Empire. And could they be worse than the Yankees ever were?
Now Blake Snell for like $35 million a year? It's becoming a joke.
What they need -- and I hope they get soon -- is a year or two without a World Series title.

And they signed him for five years. As a Giants fan, I saw what we had to put up with him last year. I don't think five years was a wise investment.
What do you mean? Was he a [censored] or something?
I don't see the Dodgers as evil at all with nice ppl like Shohei, Mookie, Clayton, etc. Even the manager is a mellow guy. Magic is a good dude aa well. -
That Evil Empire stuff died when George Steinbrenner passed. Hal is much more conservative.

As long as they have Ohtani, Betts, and Freeman,, good luck.

Look at me , we are the evil empire now

And if they sign Sasaki and get around the tampering allegations they will have enough starting rotation if healthy could field two playoff teams.

Magic is a good dude aa well.Snell literally stunk in the first half of last season. Of course the perfect game was great, but he only had a 5-3 record last year. The Dodgers are taking a risk and a big one. (Here's his link in BR: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/snellbl01.shtml).

@KyleS779_PSN Ohtani's going back to pitching next season. Which opens up new vulnerabilities for him. He's already had arm troubles and he hurt his shoulder in the WS. The Smurfs are vulnerble.

The evil empire is the collection of owners who refuse to spend to win in a leauge designed on winning. I use to hate the Yankees in the 90s but as I get older I applaud a franchise and it's ownership that has a win at all cost mentality not the we are just happy to be here mentality of say tye A's or the Pirates

Exactly, if we are being honest, all owners are rich, some choose to put a good product on the field for the fans, while other owners would rather line their own pockets, and while i know some teams play in smaller markets and they do not generate the same revenue as some of the big markets teams, they are still capable of putting a better product on the field then they often do.
-
Small market teams are not willing to overspend on the mediocre players the bigger market teams can pass on easily if they so choose. Small market teams can't recover when the free agents they do decide to spend on just don't pan out. Big market teams can shake those bust signings off and carry on with no worries.

He always stinks in the first couple of months but once he's got his mechanics lined out, he's arguably the best pitcher in the game. He was also on and off the IL the first few months of last season.
