I find it hilarious

@Weshill627_PSN Sets and seasons being gone is a big win for this franchise. SDS lost most of its player base due to sets and seasons.
-
Also, obviously, only online players like online specific rewards. Those rewards leave out at least half the player base. Not a good idea for SDS.
-
@TheCanuckler309_XBL Accept pathetic servers are boring game modes? Lol. Who cares how you get the cards. If there's only 1 way to use them and it's a laggy mess trying to do it. What's the point?

Technically there is more than one way to use them. You just choose to only use one.
Also, if EVERY game you play is laggy, maybe it's your connection.
-
@Capt-Clutch-2K24_PSN No, it's not my connection. I have fiber internet hooked into ethernet. It's the fact I match up with DR & PR players. & sds allows ANY connection to work online. So any joe with 5mbps can log on and play which is why it plays so terrible online.
Sds should allow players to leave laggy games. If I match up with someone with poor internet it shouldn't ruin my online experience.
The people who complain DD is for online players are why it's in the poor condition it's in now. Between the ridiculous ranked & br programs to heavy cpu grinding. Mini seasons is terrible and zero effort. Conquest is the worst mode in sports gaming history. They should delete all offline modes and put full effort into the online experience. If you want the offline experience play franchise or rtts.
-
@TeakAUS_PSN And I wonder why MLB is never nominated for sports game of the year? They listen to people like you who give them terrible advice and instead of improving the online experience. They spend all their time creating offline modes lol.
SDS best bet is remove all offline modes and go strictly online only. Guarantee that would be better than anything we've had over the past 8 years.
-
I don't play online with MLB The Show at all, so you make a profound observation and SDS needs to take it very seriously. SDS has spent all this development time and money to create innovations and niceties to their Diamond Dynasty coop and competition modes, but it doesn't mean much because of all the myriad of issues caused by slow and corrupted networking of various players.
Again, spot on commentary and SDS would be foolish to fail to take heed.
One other big issue just from my observations of peoples' commentary, is that too often online players quit games, or lose connection involuntarily, and games in progress are ended prematurely. A portion of game code that fairly and accurately measures online gamers' ISP connection quality for speed and reliability would be very valuable.
Simply put, customers could set up a minimum level of online connectivity quality and any players with systems below that level would be invisible to said customer. Of course, tailoring those minimum connection levels would be to ensure games don't crash. I think most folks would rather not find a game to play online than find one that doesn't play out to completion.
In sum, it's a lot like having a car chassis with a killer paint job, but the chassis is bolted to a rusty frame with a motor that won't crank. Yeah, from a distance, the car looks great, but it won't function properly and creaks, groans, and has no security because of a bad frame and lousy engine.

That's the most ridiculous suggestion I have ever seen written by anyone in the many years I have played MLB The Show. If you really think the offline modes are that unimportant, then keep your opinion to yourself, because it grossly flies in the face of reality.
I suggest you get out more. You seriously need an awakening that there is a far wider and fuller community around you than you currently seem capable of comprehending!

Way more people play offline than online. Game would not survive online only. That being said, online connections are atrocious. I have google fiber and no matter what I do, 80% of the games are not fun. I am constantly matched with east/west coast opponents and have a ton of screen shots going 4-20 on good swings while opponent is 5-8 and I am often losing these games. I just want a fun experience, I don't care if I win or lose. I probably have 300 quits. You can't punish quits if you are not giving a way for people to see the connection in the game like an accurate ping indicator which should have been done years ago.
If you are going to keep the horrid P2P connections, tournaments should have dedicated servers. SDS pulls resources during tournaments so they don't get embarrassed by the horrid connections like they did early in the year. Yes, let's pull resources for the 16 tournament players and to hell with the other players playing that weekend.

@PriorFir4383355_XBL If I'm wrong why isn't mlb the show nominatied for sports game of the year? Bc it sucks? Change it then. Fortnite is arguably top 3 games played in the world. How many people log on to play offline? Ever heard of call of duty? People play it online. Sds moving to strictly online would no doubt make it a better game.
-
It survived well over 20 years with offline only content. You seriously underestimate the number of people who buy the game and play it strictly offline. I am one, but I am capable of appreciating how many play online. Obviously, you failed to read my earlier reply to the OP, or else you would have noted that I appreciate the legit needs of online players.
That said, you are also victimized by a myopic mindset that games today are online only. That's not even close to the truth. And I didn't exaggerate one iota when I said that MLB The Show survived for well over 20 years with nothing but offline modes. Think on that reality before repeating the notion that the game is currently dominated by online play modes. It isn't -- regardless of the presence in this forum.
-
@PriorFir4383355_XBL I specifically said keep Franchise & RTTS. Those modes are both terrible and boring as well but if you want to play offline do that. Remove vs CPU in DD. That's how they improve the game. Bc what they are doing now doesn't work. Perhaps if I was on the team they'd get that sports game of the year nomination. Yes, people hop on Fortnite and COD to play offline. You're right lol.
-
@Weshill627_PSN did you play this game prior to '23? The Innings programs were vastly superior and more friendly to offline players as well. I can't speak to the gameplay, whether or not that will be better...but the overall experience of DD will be much better without set/season restrictions
-
I absolutely agree the game is in a bad state and needs work. LOTS of dedicated work. That said, this is a big win. Sets and seasons do not belong in this game. There's never been enough cards for it nor will there ever be enough cards for it.
Everything else will need to be fixed in their own time. Sets and seasons was a quick fix to settle down the fan base for their next release. It's them trying to cushion the blow and keep a steady flow of income in the meantime. I have hopes they get better and make a more quality game now. -
This game was great this year even with sets and seasons, gonna continue to buy the game every year
-
@Sarge1387_PSN Yes. I've been playing mlb the show since 2006. I have hundreds of hours on each title each year including 950 in 2024.
-
@Weshill627_PSN MLB The Show actually won sports game of the year last year...And nominated every year since 2017 except for 2021...
-
@GixxerRyder750_PSN https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Game_Awards_2023
Forza won Sports/Racing game of the year.
Mlb 24 isn't even mentioned on the game awards website lol
-
@GixxerRyder750_PSN yeah everyone has their own game awards lol.
