Helsley Replaced on All-Star Roster - First time since 2007 that the Cardinals won't have a participant.
-
Helsley has apparently decided that the 4 days rest was more important after his workload the first half of the season.
He will be replaced on the Roster by Kyle Finnegan of The Nationals.
A Little History
It will be the first time since 2007 that there will be no Cardinals participating in the game. In 2007 the All Star Manager Tony Larussa did not play Albert Pujols who was the team's only representative that year. Needless to say Pujols was upset about not playing and at his manager for keeping him on the bench.
The NL was trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the 9th. With two outs they managed to load the bases on 3 consecutive walks. Then, instead of playing for the win by letting Pujols pinch hit he played for the tie and said he kept Pujols on the bench in case the game went into extra innings.
Aaron Rowand flew out to end the game.
Pujols said after the game
"He does whatever he wants. If I wasn't expecting to play, I wouldn't have come up here."

I never cared for LaRussa.

I don't think you are alone in that feeling.
