There needs to be one hitting. Even if it’s a new form of hitting that everyone has to relearn. There shouldn’t be multiple ways to hit. I think this is the biggest culprit for this game not working.

Idk. While I do think a brand new hitting engine could be interesting. I like now, how the variety allows many different levels of players to be somewhat successful and enjoy the game, 99% these guys won't compete at a higher level, but that's not everyone's goal. I would never use directional or classic, myself, but it's cool my dad can hop on and be able to have a chance to hit the ball. Hopefully timing windows(those dang foul balls), faster pitch speeds, and a couple other tweaks with what swings are rewarded (those dang very late/jammed or okay) could help improve a system that has good potential.

No there doesn’t need to be one way to hit, no game that I’ve played has one control scheme, if you think directional makes players better and allows them to hit at the same level as zone than I don’t really know what to tell you... having multiple ways to hit in the game is not what causes problems

Why do you think that?
-
I love it when my opponents try to use directional
-
There are a ton of players who don't want to "relearn" how to hit. Not everyone plays the game competitively. Casuals make up the bulk of the game. Idc if my opponent uses directional because a "good" directional hitter is way worse then a "good" zone hitter.

Test: are they censoring the word balls

Having choices is a good thing. Plus having one system wouldn’t change the complaint. The issue is targeting. I have an idea for a be hitting system that would feel more like real hitting.
-Hold down Left bumper to load and release to swing. How long you hold it down prior to delivery will determine swing power level.
-Right stick would aim the PCI.
-Left stick would predetermine directional influencePCI shapes like a bat with a ball sized sweet spot. The size of both depends on batters ratings. The possible outcomes would be contingent upon the pitchers ratings.
-
Having choices on how to give input is not a bad thing. Having excessive amounts of randomly determined outcomes to the input is the problem. The game needs to tone down the “keep the game close” programming.

I think the keep the game close thing is mainly in people’s mind. I think an overlooked aspect of the game is pitch count and count leverage. Those two things can hurt overly aggressive players late I. The game. On the flip...pitcher confidence is real if you just let dudes throw strikes

Yeah Keeping the game close and comeback logic is an extreme myth. No one ever takes pitcher confidence and pitch count into account. A lot of the "Comeback logic" posts almost always involve taking out a starter like Kershaw and putting in a Reliever that gets rocked- Yates or Hoffman for Example

That’s interesting I found the way I avoid comeback logic is I take pitchers out when they show they are cracking. I also pull mid relievers as soon as things go south. I never let anyone with the exception of Wagner and Jansen work through it

the game is working exactly how they want it to work. Why don't people see that. The only way gameplay gets better is if they change their game to go down a more competitive path
-
It’s too late in the year to rehash this whole debate, IMO. If you guys don’t see it in your games vs much lower ranked/newer players, I’m not here to say otherwise.
To me, it is obvious, just like it is in conquest stronghold games.
Yes, count leverage is a factor. Yes pitcher confidence is a factor. Do I feel like I am playing against the game AND my opponent sometimes? Absolutely.

That's why sports game developers need competition. The best sports games came when multiple developers had the rights.
-
They don't need to make hitting a one size fits all proposition. They need to remove the rng, particularly in pitching to make the game balanced again.

I agree when it comes to NHL, NFL but the best MLB and NBA sports games happen to come when there wasn’t any comp.
I actually thought MLB 16 and 17 hitting was near perfect

Its not that it makes them hit as good. It RANDOMIZES THE OUTCOMES MORE. And I know this because random outcomes only began happening this badly after they implemented directional. The directional hitting makes no sense to have on ranked gameplay. It’s press button no skills and is just random. This in turn made them randomize zone more. Which ruined the game.

How do you remove RNG when they have directional hitting in ranked play? What would justify a hit or an out? Please explain? I’m all for removing rng.

Um directional was around before zone..
