@YOSHI24
Glad I’m boring to you Yoshi. You are annoying and pretentious to me but we can agree to disagree when it comes to this game.
All in all I enjoyed 21 far more than every MLB game since because it was rewarding and allowed players to use their favorite players without buying ridiculously overpriced packs or waiting a month for the next program to drop.
That doesn’t make either of us right or wrong. Just 2 people with vastly different opinions. Based on public perception I’m guessing far more players would agree 21 was better than 24 but you can remain firmly in the vocal minority if you wish.

@GoozeFn Guys … I could refere to @TripleH-4481 but since he is very boring I answer to this.
If you try to read everything … I replied to a thread stating that game is worse than last year and I asked being specific.
I read the forum and watch lots of the creators. I do get the complaints … content/packs … is very bad. That is true, even in my opionion (and I work as far away from SDS as you can imagine ) …But: I do not think that the game is worse, so why should I say so? Because you guys cannot differentiate your criticism?
So … I try:
- Content is not good, it is not enough.
- Packs should also be „reachable“ via some content
- I am not in on every pack should be earnable (they will be later … like always), because I get that they want to make money. And, as I said: The best move as always is not to buy them.
- Too many foul balls (which could relate to the lower overalls)
- The mickey mouse stadiums that play really bad (shield woods, Capital Lane …) are still a problem. That is way worse than not having the stubs to buy specific players/packs because it affects each game
But:
- The power creep approach is awesome. That is what DD is all about. You take cards, they slowly get better and improve your team (or not). I am having lots more fun in 4 weeks than 23 all together.
- You guys pretend that you have to spend money to get stubs to buy packs. I do not get it. Nobody needs all the new cards, There is lots of stubs out there (clean your inventory ) … but I get that you will not every card when they release without spending real money (which you do not have to in the first place)
- you can progress through every program playing the game you like to play. That is a big improvement. I do it a lot online.
That‘s just a few of them … But hey. I am old and smart enough to smile about the „Yoshi is …“-comments. Because they are not differentiated and precise enough so I should care.
Remember: Critiicsm is not an easy task. Stating bold and undifferenciated is easy. I think a lot of you guys are hanging (rightfully) on the pack-thing. That alone does not make the game „bad overall“.
Last one … specifically to the 1st post of this thread: If you compare 24 to 23 and pretend that 23 was overall much better, you cannot (imo) be any worse. 23 was a crime to DD in general. It was boring af and everybody here was on that boat … why should „the pack-thing alone“ alone make 24 worse?
I agree with your breakdown, generally. Gatekeeping stubs and xp is a huge problem, though, that you underacknowledge.
Also, just a friendly observation: your last paragraph is nothing if not the "bold and undifferentiated" bad criticism that you point out in the previous paragraph. It's kind of a hilarious juxtaposition.
-
@SuntLacrimae50 Thanks. The last paragraph did reference to some specific bullet points stating that DD is fun again, because I can build my team slowly (which 23 did not have). I should have been more specific
EDIT: To the gatekeeping. I do not have an exact opinion on that but I do not understand what most of the people make with their stubs? I get the impression, that most of them buy packs and complain afterwards, that the results are bad. I could be wrong
-
@TripleH-4481 Thanks. 21 is my favourite the last 4 years…. partly because it was my first year and because collecting made sense. So we are not that far apart (if we try to focus on a specific discussion rather than bold accusations ) … But the thread is not about comparing 21 to 24. It relates to 23, that is important.
Last year, collecting did not matter imo. DD was all about assembling one specific god squad for ranked (which you could play over weeks) and gathering/grinding the heck out of CostCo to get amount x of cards to fill out collections.
This year they are pacing it … they are going in a better direction (at least imo). That alone is a good point … I do not think, that anybody knows the road of the next few weeks, but I like the improvement over last year. Again: Is it perfect? Probably no, I am not sure. Is the pack-structure good? Clearly: No -
@YOSHI24 Not everyone plays ranked. RS is ONE aspect of DD. Lots of people play single-player modes and like to collect cards and do that stuff -- Conquest, build their binders, etc.
Heck, there are BR guys who barely go into RS, and RS guys who only dabble in events and BR, like Littleman.
Failing to recognize that DD is more than 1-1 reveals a blindspot/bias.
Respectfully!

It's an interesting paradox... SDS is being smart business-wise, knowing that our community is full of pack junkies. We LOVE opening packs, and we KNOW we shouldn't buy them... but like... we need to open them... So making them only available through stub purchase is brilliant.
Personally, I love the fact the not everyone has every card. It's annoying ALWAYS facing an MVP every single at bat. I get that we're headed there eventually... but still.
Maybe the thought process was "the grind is still there - it's just less defined. Instead of grinding a program for the best cards, you have to grind stubs to purchase them. (which allows you to 'play the way you want'). Theoretically, it doesn't make sense to have a program give you the best cards AND a bunch of stubs to finish collections and buy other cards. It SHOULD be a struggle. But I'm old, and remember the days of gold cards costing 8k+, and never sniffing live series collections.
We all want everything right away. It's our nature, and it is what it is. The "right" decision, is to make things hard to get, which theoretically makes the game last longer. You don't have the best cards until the last week, or something. That just doesn't jive with people who think "spending more time in the game should get me a better team earlier", which is definitely not wrong...
In summation, no matter what SDS does, it's a lose-lose. You can't make everybody happy all of the time. We're all gonna complain regardless.
I'm just happy to be alive and have the time to play the game. I'm just glad baseball is back.

To the first part, totally agree. I love power creep. It plays more like BB than HR derby.
To the second, I don't think you're right. Lots try to buy out the LS collection or flip to buy cards they want. Gatekeeping stubs makes both much harder, incentivizing stub purchases.
-
@TubaTim90 So, it's not an impossible situation for SDS.
I'm pretty sure most people would be okay with pack-only cards that are ahead of the power creep if they wouldn't gatekeep stubs and xp like they are.
They don't even have to release those packs as rewards. Just loosen the grip on stubs a bit.
And don't steal people's equipment or make high-value equipment unsellable without a "no sell" sticker, lol.
-
@Vipersneak, clearly you're much more in the know on all of this, so I'll defer to your expertise... but since we have the luxury of having such a well-connected forum member to mete out the inside juice, I'm curious: how much gross profit does SDS generate on game sales, and taking those game sales into account, what's that look like compared to their operating expenses and overhead? How would you compare their standing with regard to financial backing to, say, Bioware and Square Enix?
I don't play either of those games you cited, though, so I don't know a lot about them... what do their free weekly content drops look like? That's pretty cool that they don't charge for any added content after that initial release.
-
And for the love of God, put some of the packs in a program this time!! No standard and Jumbo packs.
-
The game is much worse than this time last year. Last year I packed Trout, Betts, and 99 Mickey. This year, I packed 27 diamonds and only 2 blues,,, 14k Mickey twice...
I actually had to "earn" and "grind" for my stubs. Unlike last year. This is why the game sucks more than last year...I'm totally joking. Honestly, I actually enjoyed playing through all the content this year. There are many things I don't like, but there are some positives thrown in. I enjoy the cornerstone captain boosts. I enjoy hitting more homeruns since I think MLB 19? Or 18? When we were hitting hr's a foot out of the strike zone, and the swing late, be great days, lol.
Moving forward, I'd like to see more meaningful content, pitching accuracy tuned, fielders not dropping ez fly balls, infielder running 3 steps before deciding to throw the ball, etc.
Hopefully SDS also gets less greedy with making us buy those 40k packs. At least allow us tp earn 1 to try our luck.. -
@SuntLacrimae50
I don't share the same "Stub shortage" crisis opinion. I'm at about 135k stubs. Granted, I do tend to hoard my stubs and only spend on live series players...

It's not an opinion. Stubs are being given out much more sparsely this year. Reward packs with sellable cards, like in Conquest and the programs, are also MIA. It's a real thing. Crisis is your word, not mine. But SDS gatekeeping stubs is undeniable.
That you're an exception doesn't negate the general trend/direction.

True... But I guess it speaks to my cleverness, rather than the "general trend/direction" of giving up and complaining before actually putting in effort.

I’ve got plenty of stubs as well. Just have to play the game and manage your inventory. Sell dupes, flip a little bit. Add in some pack luck. I’m certainly not going to expect to just be handed everything for free.
