I emailed them about the problem, but it is Easter Sunday so I'm fairly certain they won't hear anything back until tomorrow. just really irritated, because Ryne Sandberg should be on my squad right now; but I won't have him for about another hour and that's stupid and unfair.

Pretty irritated. I just did two home run derbies in a row to go from Silver 98 to Gold level 1; it even flashed the graphic of the gold symbol in the middle of the screen to let me know I had gotten to Gold 1.
I sign back into Diamond Dynasty and it drops me back to where I was before I did the derbies: Silver 98. I've restarted it 7x, played 3 online event games and STILL, not at Gold 1. What. The. F?Did you close put as soon as you completed the level up or did you play a game?

That’s the dumbest thing I’ve read today
It's a mode that is beinf abused. Juat like people were abusing Play vs CPU last year by playing hours upon hours against the cpu and not leaving the game until the next Inning Program dropped.
I wouldn't be surprised if this is eventually patched.
