Too early to care about MLBTS 24?
-
I know I’m gonna get the game, but for the first year since I started 3 years ago, I lost interest this year. Curious if you all think they will keep the same model of sets and seasons and a half dozen 99 Schwarbers, 99s on day 1 etc, or go back to the old way? Or something new entirely.
I also thought 23 was the last year for last gen consoles like my trusty PS4 but now I’m hearing that’s not true.
Who will be the cover athlete?
I Just miss coming on here and talking about the game, this year fell off a cliff.
-
I'm hoping they just phoned in this season to prepare for 24. I wondered at several points during the year if they just went with the "be careful what you wish for" philosophy for everyone who asked for 99s from day 1.
-
I started playing when it was released on Xbox game pass. I went from playing mostly offline to hitting World Series most seasons, probably being one of the best players over the age of 40, and being the first sports game I ever played online. I’ve enjoyed almost every minute even with the flaws of the every year sports video game. However I probably won’t play much in the next game. I have some pretty major life changes and I want to do other things where this doesn’t dominate my free time. I mean should we playing this type of game every year for the whole year?
-
I think their internal sales numbers and number of current gen consoles on the market place will determine which consoles get the game. I don’t think there will be a massive graphic improvement when they drop the last generation because there wasn’t in the past when they dropped PS3 from the lineup and focused on just the PS4.
I personally would chose the 40/70 man as the cover athlete or maybe finally give the honor to a pitcher since they’ve never done it outside Ohtani but he’s not just a pitcher. It could be someone young like Strider or older like Cole.
I don’t think the new model goes away after 1 game but it should be tweaked for their customers. I could care less if it stays or goes. I’m fine either way.

My guess is they will if they feel it was successful, whether they measure that in player retention or stubs and packs purchased is the main question.
I think if they keep them then we will see multiple 99's again but here is hoping that they have learned some lessons. I mean if they keep sets and seasons then there is really no way around it. There are just not enough current players + legends to not double and triple up. I certainly don't see them expanding the legends roster by enough to cover the difference.

I care!
I've played this game forever. Dipped into DD in 2020 and never looked back. I really enjoyed 20/21/22. I was pretty disappointed with 23. I enjoyed the gameplay. I do play BR, RS, and selected Events, and I enjoy earning cards that way.
Sets though... ugh. The WBC program was pretty fun. After that, you realize that it's basically "rinse and repeat". Long, long grinds to earn the same players over and over. I have to believe that SDS will tweak Sets somehow, I'm guessing this will be the model moving forward. I think the only way I'd enjoy Sets is if each one was entirely different. For example, Set 1 focused on "Prospects" - remember those? Lower overalls, not 99's day 1. Each Set after that gives a slightly better overall, until you're at 99's in September. I don't know. This isn't my job to figure this out.
I'd love to see a true "next-gen" game for PS5 and Xbox X only, but that probably won't happen until 25 at the earliest.
See you at Tech Test!

I typically choose one game and that’s my game “for the year”. Used to be Madden. Tried MLB in 21 and loved it!!
Last year was a bit of a grind. This year…..
Maybe the sheen had worn off, but there’s a lot that I didn’t like in 23. Inconsistent gameplay between DD modes. TA grind was WAY too long. TA collection. The “5,000” 99 Kyle Schwarbers. I could go on.
I’m seriously thinking of going back to Madden. Maybe taking a year off MLB will bring back the newness.
We will see.

I'm playing here and there to fill out my Pirates collection but yes, definitely lost interest. TBD if I get 24..
-
I'm definitely getting '24, and should be playing this into February.
Luckily, I've gotten farther into HUT in NHL than ever before. I used to only play EASHL online team play, but not much this year, yet. That should get me through until '24 drops. I quit Madden in '19. It's too animation-based, and a mess. -
Definitely not getting '24 or any future installments beyond that. '23 was mostly a slog, with the same program over and over, only the names being changed. Rewards were collection fodder with the best cards being in packs. They did switch things up a bit near the end of the content cycle, but the damage had been done with a huge chunk of the player already gone.
I lost faith in SDS completely, but beyond that I probably wouldn't be getting future games regardless. I've just had more than my fill of the grind to build a team. It just isn't fun anymore.

Will Live Series Ohtani be listed as a DH or will he still have SP attributes?

Nobody but SDS knows … we‘ll find out in about 8-10 weeks.
My guess: He will be DH with no pitching attributes on his live series card -

My guess: He will be DH with no pitching attributes on his live series cardThey'll want people to buy stubs so they can buy his card; so they'll give him pitching attributes.
They'll justify it by saying that it's based on the last 2-3 years, and since he pitched during that time, he gets pitching attributes.
-
He didn’t pitch in 2019 but retained pitching attributes. They didn’t have DH position back then but they made him an outfielder. Don’t forget people play franchise and play more than a season and in real life he will pitch again. They don’t need to justify anything to anyone but they do base the cards off 3 season and he pitched in those season.

I forgot about the 3-year-thing … You‘re absolutely right. They put up the stats on a „rolling 3-year-system“. So he will def have pitching attributes (did he play OF the last 3 years though?)

He played 7 games in the OF in 2021 (for a total of 8.1 innings):

21 & 22 yes. I don't know about 19 & 20.
