A little off topic

Yeah that's the problem she doesn't allow the dogs in the bedrooms, I compromised to the point to where she can put the dogs in the basement and if they need to eat of be let outside then I would just go to my niece's room until they go back down to the basement but she and her boyfriend said no that's it's their house too
-
The basement sounds fine to me and is part of the house. I mean she should understand if you have a fear of these dogs and respect this as your sister.
-
NTA. Christmas is just one day out of the year, and the dogs should be able to hang out in the basement for a few hours. I'm a big dog lover, and I understand the "it's their house, too" argument, but some temporary sacrifices can be made on such a family oriented holiday.

Exactly it would have been the 1st Christmas that my entire family would celebrate together in years and my nephews 1st Christmas, she did it for Thanksgiving but now is pushing back

Stand your ground here. Remember you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar so be polite in your discourse with your sister despite the fact she’s showing herself here to be quite selfish with her apparent lack of compassion. Let her know exactly that which you’ve said here which is how much you’re looking forward to spending time with everyone and that the dogs really frighten you and no one should have to spend their special family gathering in fear. Since she probably grew up with you then you’d hope she’d know this which strikes me as a bit unkind. Regardless perhaps reach out to the boyfriend I think he might be who I went to as an ally to your cause and maybe he can speak to her on your behalf.
PS one last nugget. while it’s true that one can attract more flies with honey it’s also important to remember you can attract more honeys being fly lol

There must be a way to work a Christmas bribe for the dogs. Give them some kind of reward in exchange for them spending a few hours the basement from their human uncle. Dogs do love Christmas presents too.
-
Only one problem now there's going to be 2 more dogs there with her boyfriend's family coming so that brings the total to 5 now, and her boyfriend is the one driving this whole it's their house too and she's just going along with it so we made the decision as a family tonight that we will NOT be going, my other sister has already canceled her flight too because of her doing this
-
Holidays do tend to bring out family drama like no other. I’m sorry for you but applaud you standing up for yourself. I’ve always said just because they are family doesn’t give them the right to disrespect you and ignore a valid need or concern along the way.
-
@sbchamps17_NSW That sucks but I’m glad your other sister is in your corner. Maybe you can see your niece and nephew on video chat. Not really gonna help with missing the 5 month old’s first Christmas but you can see them on the day so they will know how much you wish you could be there with them.

Am I wrong for not wanting to go to my sister's house for an early Christmas if I'm extremely afraid of dogs and there's supposedly 3 big wild dogs that are going to be there and she won't do anything about it? I'm sorry if this is off topic but I feel like I'm being singled out and told to just stay home and not see my niece and nephew and my 5 month old nephew just born in July
hahah mate you are absolutely right to feel this way ok - 'a little off topic' is what makes me laugh - this is as much of a Reddit NTA post as it ever comes
-
Grow a pair and go.
-
@sbchamps17 i feel like because dogs are there is a bad reason to not spend family time in the holiday i dont know might just be me but I wouldn't let dogs of all things hold me back. You should go, they will prpobably be good dogs.
-
nope wild and aggressive dogs, plus 2 other dogs from his side of the family which they call puppies but their version of puppies are HUGE BIG dogs, so me and my family didn't go but now I get to see my niece and nephew after Christmas instead
-
@sbchamps17 all dogs need is a little love, they were probably some good pups, wild or not, show a dog some love and they'll give you everything they have.
-
Except when I'm terrified of dogs and have been all my life
