I started playing a little over two years ago (I know, not very long), but I was fully obsessed with this game. I'd be afraid to see the number of hours I put into playing. And like some of you, I was hoping for some more content, but wasn't careful what I wished for.

This copy and paste of Affinity Seasons, releasing the same cards with lesser ratings, and just the lack of creativity with some of these new programs has made me lose all interest in the grind. I didn't even finish the last series and haven't started the new one. It's just too much of the exact same thing. I don't care about any of the cards minus 1 or 2 from the Affinity seasons and some of the missions are too long, or not even enough to let you complete the program without buying cards.

Yes, they definitely put out more cards and programs, but they did it in a way that sucked the life from me and this game.

I'm sure I'll play a bit once everything is released. But my plan to complete every set died along with my desire to grind

Sorry to hear that. I am still playing which is rare for me this late in the year but I have taken some major breaks in the year to play other things. It also helps that I don't even attempt to 100% things. I have not 100% completed any TA grind for any division in any season. I also don't chase collection rewards. I simply try for the cards that I would like to use.

That said, I don't minds sets and seasons as a concept, but I think it was just poorly implemented.

I find myself playing less as well. I enjoy finishing any/all Collections. But, this season(my 3rd), I simply have given up on TA and those Collection sets.

I’m hoping there is some sort of TA week, where we get double PXP or any lineup counts for all TA or something(!!) to help finish

Like @Dolenz_PSN said above, season/sets don’t bother me. Just very poorly implemented.

    @Dolenz
How would you have done it differently?
Would you have imposed the "expired cards" rule?

What program(s) did you have to buy cards to finish?

I agree with them both. Seasons are long so I would’ve broken them up into halves. Each season would have a midway point. I would give out more wild card slots. 1 position and 1 pitcher and at the All Star break I would give out an additional one for anywhere.

Not nearly enough legends to make sets and seasons work. Seasons way too long. Result is far too many duplicate cards and way too much grinding for identical or often lesser versions of the same card.

My appreciation for sets is now I don’t have 100 extra monthly awards cards and not enough Prime

    Each card is viewed equal

While I will never agree with cards that you have earned or purchased, being deemed ineligible for online RS H2H matches, your point of having more WCs would be better than what we currently have.

Regardless, if they keep this Set format, they should make all Captain cards "Core", and cards that are being used with that Captain, should be eligible for any season. The current structure does not do much to support Captain usage, or parallelling for that matter.

There were Set 1 cards that I never wanted to stop using, like RF Posada. Even Chipper, although he was my WC for awhile. Charisma Jeff McNeil was a beast that I would've used all year if we didn't have Sets.
I hope we go back to 'regular' next season.

My main complaints have fallen into 2 camps..

    1. My Cardinals theme team got weaker in season 3 and 4 than it was in season 1 and 2. Nobody wants to see their theme team get weaker as you approach the all-star break.

    2. Release order of the cards.

    • For example, we got a 99 Ozzie Smith in Set 1. We got a 97 Ozzie Smith in Set 3. Now in season 5 there are no eligible Ozzie Smith cards.

    • Stan Musial was a day 1 captain for the cardinals collection. That card was a 94. Set 2 gave a a 90 overall Musial. That same set 2 gave us a 99 Stan Musial. Now in season 5 the best option to use Musial is his 94 overall captain card from set 1 because it is core.

    • Jim Edmonds - Set 1 99 card. Set 3 97 card. Set 5 he has no card that is eligible.

Now I could use my wildcard for one of them but I need to use that so that i can have a decent catcher and not be forced to use Live Series Contreras.

Sounds like your team would greatly benefit from a good Ted Simmons card! 🙂

He would be a good add. I liked Vince Coleman from those 80s Cards.

You either have been paying attention or just made a good guess. I have been asking for a Ted Simmons card ever since he was inducted to the Hall of Fame, even moreso this year, now that we won't have any Molina cards for at least a few years, if we see him again at all.

As for the suggestions for Willie McGee and Vince Coleman. I would take a McGee but I feel like Coleman would just be a lesser Lou Brock. Cardinals actually have decent outfield options already (Brock, Edmonds, Musial).

And let me say that while I use the Cardinals as my examples all the time I want the same things for all the teams.

Tom Herr had like eight homers and over 100 RBIS one year, that always blew my mind. Sometime in the mid to late 80s.

Never underestimate the effect of having Vince Coleman (110 SB), Willie Mcgee (56 SB), Andy Van Slyke (34 SB) and Ozzie Smith (31 SB) in the lineup also. The number of times those guys got on base and got themselves into scoring position, coupled with Herr's .302 batting average and team leading 38 doubles, gave him a lot of opportunities.

The entire team hit 87 homeruns and made the World Series. They weren’t even in last place that year for team homeruns. The Pirates had 80. I looked them up to see exactly how many Herr had. It was 110 RBI on 8 homeruns.

That is amazing to think about, less than 100 home runs and still having success.
