What happened to this? It was a very cool way to progress cards from low tier diamonds to 99.
-
Have to believe Sets & Seasons are a big reason why.
Any card worth the grind would be ineligible by the time you earned them.
-
They could be core cards.
-
If you make them core cards, then you can't release new versions of the cards in subsequent seasons.

isn't this pretty much Parallel?

If I'm remembering right these were special programs where you'd earn several different cards, rather than paralleling just one.

Yup was a cargo pudge and I can’t recall the last one if there was one, maybe a first baseman I think. Was a ton of fun earning that 90 somethibg card after grinding the low tier. Also was a choice pack that you eventually earned all three over time

Eckersley and Biggio were the other two.
I remember Biggio because it was his first year, and Eckersley because of that complete game shutout moment. That Eckersley moment made me hate Austin Allen, and solidified for me that the speed rating for the CPU is nonsense. He had a 0 speed rating, yet he's out here like he's Barry Allen.

It’s been a few years since we had these I believe. The Jackie Robinson and me was the best I can remember.
I do think they stopped about the time parallel was introduced.
