I've only been playing DD since 2020, but I don't remember having a program being dependent on having to buy a card or get lucky with a pull. Like @SaveFarris_PSN has said, I'm sure SDS will sprinkle packs in upcoming CQ maps and reward paths.
2018: Want that 99 Immortal Babe Ruth? Have to pitch 200 innings with his one of his mid-tier cards. And collect a million hats and jerseys.
2017: Want that 99 Griffey Jr? You have to get 4 HR in a single online game (and hope the guy you're playing doesn't spite quit before you get there.)
Also 2017: You want that 95 Tim Lincecum? You have to lock in the 88 Lincecum that was only available as a Ranked Season reward 3 seasons ago.
Programs are so much more flexible today than they were in years past. And even STILL, people gripe because rewards aren't just handed to them with at least a little bit of effort.
... now get off my lawn!!!
You forgot about Pepe Alazar. The Joe Random with all 99 stats that you could only get by getting his stats done "ONLINE".

That Griffey mission was a nightmare. I think you had to use the silver or gold card, right? I lost quite a few HR to dashboarding. I also remember poor Griffey getting beaned after his 3rd HR.

That said, I finished Extreme faster than I'll finish this. Weird.
Monthly awards programs in 17,18 and 19 you got the players in packs,I think 19 was the first where you could get some in the program too. 17 they were all in packs and you had to collect and missions to get the lightning.

Right this retirement program will talke more time for me than the Extreme program they made that way easier this year
-
Requiring collections to finish programs doesn't seem all that flexible to me.

The program was annoying. The showdown was the easiest ever. It was on rookie then the final 3 are on veteran. I ended up with the base round and did not feel like grinding anymore so just bought the cards to finish it.
-
Let me finish it as i want
If i want to do pxp over and over let me
I do not want to buy cards, i do not want to play showdown and I do not want to play the event

Ah yes 2018 the only year so far that i've quit before the season ended, just wasn't feeling it with that version. I believe that was also the season of immortals

Yeah definitely wasn’t four HRs. You mean the mission where you got the 4 “hits” and a HR with a “95 Griffey” you had already earned from upgrading him multiple times all year from silver to gold to diamond with whatever remaining mission (flexibility) left to achieve the biggest prize for the biggest program of the year. 99 Griffey who was literally on the cover of the game...
The most popular player of his generation isn’t the same thing as a “retired number” or “Kaiju” eat up time in the middle of the year program that has 8 options with 7 being required, and none of them ever having any variance.
There is less complaints about Extreme because it has the most options of any program in years. It’s like they actually thought about it for a few minutes one day.
-
I’m at 67 points and since I don’t want to do event, showdown or buy cards I’m stuck

Pretty sure it was an 88 version of Griffey that had subpar power to begin with and nearly unusable against lefties.
I loved what they did with Extreme. Even if it takes forever to get the PXP points, at least you’re always making progress.
I think if they made the PXP repeatable, there would be a lot less complaints. And they should’ve also allowed the retired number cards from the packs to count, not just the program players.

The retirement program is probably the worst one I can remember in my 3 years of playing The Show.
I finished the moments and got the 3434 PXP. Along the way, Baines hit 3 homers and Ozzie stole a base.
Looked at what was left to do and said ,”no thanks “
Bought Duke, pulled the base round from the pack. Bought two of the other base rounders.
Done. And I hate that I finished it this way.
SDS, no more programs like this please. I get that you’re trying different things this year. This ain’t it.
