Season Question

I'm looking at my team, and it's all set 2 and 3 players.
Why do I need to assign a wild card when my team, in theory, is already season 3 eligible?
Then I assign set 3 Adley Rutschman as my "wild card", and it puts Devin Williams in my bullpen for some reason.
Am I misunderstanding something?
Can someone help an older, confused brother out?

You don’t have to have a wild card. It’s optional

the wildcard is there for sets that are no longer eligible.for set 3,set 1 is no longer eligible,but you could have one as the wildcard. but it's optional.
