I am playing 2 way and I don’t know why I don’t get to bat when I pitch like Ohtani? Any ideas

Found this online. I know MLB made a provision just for this situation but I’ve not tried it in the game. I found something online that claims to show how to do it. Here’s the link I hope it works.

Much ink (or is it many bytes in this world now) has been spilled (sent) on this, and the best anyone seems to have come up with is "who knows"...

All we can come to the consensus on is that the RTTS Managers (who set the lineups) have no clue on how to properly use the 2-way rule.

I think I accidentally invoked this in a game the other day but didn’t catch it until this thread. I had inadvertently left a position player on the mound and already had Shohei in the DH spot so I switched them as if it were a defensive swap (I want to say that I didn’t even have to honor the ‘3 batter faced’ minimum), and it worked. However there was some info that flashed on the screen explaining something but of course I didn’t read it.

I could be totally wrong as well…might’ve even dreamed it so don’t take my word on it (or anything for that matter) and perhaps someone else has got it figured out. Best of luck and would be interested to know if it’s something that’s worth pursuing.

It's easily done in MTO, Franchise, and DD. With RTTS, paladin has the best answer with, "who knows."

I sense confusion here. Let me try to explain:

The DH is just that - a player Designated to Hit for the "pitcher's spot" in the lineup.

As such, if you do something to cause said player to need to be able to hit in-game, but not for the pitcher, like, oh, put him in as a defensive substitute, you "lose" the designation and the pitchers must take their at bats when their spot in the lineup shows up.

Also, since the DH rule was created, it has been an option. The Angels always had the opportunity to let Ohtani hit in the 'pitcher's spot" during his starts, however, since no player was designated to hit for the pitcher(s), they would be playing under the old pre-Covid NL rules about having the current pitcher have to bat, even after Ohtani left the game.

The Ohtani rule, in essense, allows the team to Designate their Starting Pitcher to be the one to hit in the "pitcher's spot" of the lineup, even after said pitcher is removed from the mound (and previously, game). Done by "slotting" said SP as the DH in the batting order.

Now, in your story, you "broke" the DH-ing when you put Ohtani (then-DH) into the field via your defensive swap - the man you had designated to hit for the pitchers now has to hit for his fielding position, so someone else (the pitchers) have to hit for the rest of the game...

Meanwhile, as broken_toy1 mentioned, the game's other modes - the ones in which the player sets the lineups, the Ohtani Rule plays perfectly.

Which then leads to my earlier comment - that the "RTTS Manager", who sets the lineups, has no clue on how/when to invoke the Ohtani Rule. At one point, per the "no gear included wheel" at the top of the lineup screen, my SP/1B had better RH Contact and nearly the same RH Power as the dude the game kept trotting out as the DH during my starts, yet even then the manager never slotted me as DH over him to "invoke" the Ohtani rule - though I'd replace him during the games just before and just after my start, when I was "mandated" to DH...

That is the best explanation I've read. TY
