Mark Grace would be a great addition. Nothing against Alfonso Soriano but I’d drop him like a hot potato for Grace. 1989 postseason Grace would be insane.

I have to agree with ya there! The man knew how to show up for the big game did he not? Even though I was heartbroken to see the Cubs take the NL East over my beloved Metropolitans in ‘89, I couldn’t stay too bummed as that Cubbies team was fo shizzle.

Dawson ripping bombs over the ‘Tru-Link’ fence onto Waveland, Jerome Walton and Dwight Smith each had captured lightning in a bottle, and of course there was Wild Thang….but Mark Grace was the leader and no doubt. I can think of several instances over the years (just off the top of my head!) where the opposing team’s 1B got all the press headed into an important matchup and within a couple of games it had become the Mark Grace show. Did the man ever even make an out in a LCS?

Yessir, I gotta agree with you 110% - you may even be charged with making an understatement there! I tell you one other thing about Grace that I’ll never forget…during the perfect game pitched by the Unit in 2004, Grace was in the booth doing the color commentary and he had the outcome sniffed out in like the 4th or 5th inning…he literally predicted it due to his incredible baseball IQ. I’m not blowing smoke either - it’s one of the games that I make sure and re-watch every single year (there are quite a few of those) and I’m literally begging anyone interested in seeing what it is I’m talking about to please, please watch that game.

I’ll never forget that NLCS for what Grace and Will Clark did. Grace hit .647 and Clark hit .650, I was a huge fan of both guys but I’m the weird guy who even though I’m a Dodgers fan, Will Clark was my favorite player.

He truly had a beautiful swing. Lefties seem to have that going for them quite a bit. It sure was something watching those two go toe to toe like that

Another lefty I want in this game is your guy Straw. I live in Connecticut and hated the Yankees and Sawks so from the locals it was your guys I watched on TV and tried so bad to use that leg kick with my wiffle bat.

Ahhh you just conjured up images in my minds eye of Darling (speaking of CT!) and Franco running from the bullpen and wandering the parking lot at Shea in full uniforms while trying to find that ball he hit over the scoreboard. What a swing! I love that man.

Your leg kick made me think of Kirby Puckett…imagine how high his would be if he was the same size as Strawberry haha!

Dude, Will Clark was my favorite growing up. Never cared much for his cards in game though.

Great discussion all around. There are a few people out there I wish we would see. Gracie being my selfish favorite for that. I did see him in SMB4 which is really what fueled this discussion. I'm not suggesting a 99 insanity but something to acknowledge his contribution to the game. He may not be the most PC individual or there but he was a gritty ball player for sure!

Ok @fubar2k7_PSN i know I can count on you to have my back on this, plus I want you to experience this again for yourself being a fan of Grace and of Baseball. We were discussing his phenomenal baseball IQ and now I’ve went and found my example since the topic is picking up steam.

    Here’s the link:

    https://www.youtube.com/live/ULCEaFDFth0?feature=share

Start at 59:50 and watch but especially listen. Unit had pitched FOUR innings at this point. Four. The kicker comes about 3 min later at 1:02:30 mark. You will literally laugh audibly I can almost guarantee it. Please do this for your pal, you won’t regret it.

Four innings in. He called it. Of course as the game progresses it gets more and more entertaining listening to Grace who was fit to be tied due to his nerves as this unforgettable game progresses. I’ve never heard another announcer even come close. Please.

As a Die-hard Cubs fan I don't know why we have 3 Sosa cards and have yet to see a Mark Grace or Ron Santo?? Only 1 Sandberg? At the same time Sosa was hitting bombs, while cheating the game, Mark Grace was getting more hits and doubles than anyone in the MLB for a decade! 3x All-star and multiple Gold Gloves, twice as many walks than k's throughout his 13 year career, not too mention the only Cub to hit for the cycle in the last 30 years and he can't even get a Captain card WHEN HE WAS THE CUBS CAPTAIN!!! Sammy, with his corked bats and juiced muscles still had to hit the balls which took tremendous skill, I get it, but he gets 3 cards while guys like Gracie and Santo get nothing? Come on y'all. Share the wealth with some of the teammates of these guys who were getting overlooked. Surely it can't be licensing because that other joke of a baseball game gave Gracie a shot. Come on SDS, show some love here to one of the 90's Cubs greats and most recent inductee into their Hall of Fame as well

A Mark Grace card would pretty sweet.

They would need to add the "Slump Buster" ritual though.

Loved Grace and how he played the game.

His interviews on Jim Rome were epic…which is where the “slump buster” story came from, I’m like 99% sure.

And Slump Buster would be the ONLY “Incognito” card I’d ever use.

Not sure his card would be popular though. Didn’t have much power.

Don't have anything to say but this game needs:

    "Wall-E" Joyner (any card that's 99)
Jim "The One Armed Bandit" Abbott (No hitter card)
Lenny "Nails" Dykstra (Alot of that WS team needs cards but not Mitch Williams)
    Lance "The Puma" Berkman
    Carlos "El Caballo" Lee
    Victor "The Hitter" Martinez

    List goes on.

Solid list - loved the Mitch Williams comment. What would be great if they issued a card for him as the MVP for the Jays.

Loved the way Dykstra played the game…he was old school no doubt about it and as tough as, well, nails.

Edit: Oh and Abbott’s no-hitter was incredible…but in my book nowhere near as impressive as his 2 career hits. That may appear as sarcasm but I assure you that’s not so. It’s been a long established cliche that hitting a mlb fastball is the most difficult thing to do in professional sports and he did it one handed….twice. The no-hitter takes effort from all 9 but he got those hits all by himself. He was an incredible player but I’m betting if our friends at SDS tried to code in a single player with one-arm they’d have to burn their source code and probably the building they work in as well and start from scratch

The 51.....because he had 51 career hits. Played one season in 1945....St. Louis Browns.
