To each their own and all, but I don't get how so many people play on rookie so much to just mindlessly pad stats. It sounds so boring. I'm not that great or anything, but I always play the CPU on All-Star and am still having fun playing. Based on the forum, it seems like most people that play this game complain about how much they hate grinding. Maybe try just actually playing on a legit difficulty level and having fun rather then playing on rookie in a fake stadium with 200 foot walls and expecting every hit to be a homer.
Sometimes the game forces you to play on rookie, like in moments or showdowns.

Right, I'm aware. That's why I said "but I always play the CPU on All-Star". Meaning Conquest or play vs CPU games when trying to get PXP.

Except this isn’t real baseball it’s a video game that is supposed to reward decent input. I get the balance between simulation and arcade but the randomness makes it feel like zone should be eliminated and we just use timing or directional and get what we get. I know that no perfect balance exists but the game far too often rewards bad input and punishes good input in the name of simulation. The great players are able to overcome the nuances of the game where for average players it’s generally the difference between success and failure. I played baseball for almost 20 years and have watched it for 35 years. This game is at its best when it rewards players input and time put into the game with appropriate rewards. This years game is falling short in both regards and is the main reason on top of all the utter silliness and other cringe that long time players are extremely frustrated and disappointed.

So every Perfect-Perfect should be a no doubt HR?
You don’t think “decent input” isn’t rewarded??
I watch streamers play games on Legend that end 15-13 with almost every hit being a HR.
You typed a lot of words without actually saying much.

I certainly respect your right to have a different opinion than mine.
I believe the game should lean more to the video game side with regards to perfect/perfect contact.
A no doubt homer every time? Nah. A hit of some sort? Yes, every time.
And a perfect/perfect in a Moment should satisfy the requirement if it’s a homer/XBH/4 bases, etc type moment. Every time.
My opinion.

So…player ratings are meaningless?
A low rated hitter hits a P-P vs a pitcher with a 95 HR/9…those ratings mean nothing?
P-P has to do with the type of contact you make. It has nothing to do with the result of that contact in the context of a baseball game.

PP should not be guaranteed hits, agreed. I have no problem with the % of outs.
What you should admit is that PP nukes with guys with over [fill in your number] power should ALWAYS go out. Can't tell you how many PP nukes with 125 power guys were caught on the warning track. [censored] horrible design decision.

It's a catch-22 for sure. Randomness is a huge part of baseball, and we love it. I don't think SDS can win with this one, honestly. That's why the original RBI Baseball will feel more satisfying but we'll still never go back to it.
One thing you said is so spot-on. The best players are able to overcome the randomness almost all the time. The rest of us get very frustrated by it because our instances of perfect input are much more rare.
-
If we're now at the point where the complaint is that every Perfect/Perfect should result in a hit then what you are saying is that you don't think The Show should be a baseball game.
-
Fact is, its much easier squaring up a baseball from your [censored] in front of a monitor than real life. If you want every single good input to be rewarded, we’d have football scores. It’s just not logical

What was the pitcher’s rating? What’s the elevation? What part of the stadium was it hit? What stadium are you playing?
Just saying…there’s a lot of other factors.
Also don’t think Power just means distance. It has to do with speed at which the ball comes off the bat. Which, I know, has a role in distance, but so does the angle of the of launch…and spin on the ball.
I think one thing some people overlook is that there are variations of P-P. That’s why you see some P-P that are screamers thru the infield or right at someone…P-P hits that are lasers in a gap…and P-P that are no doubt bombs.
On a side note, I will purposely play in big stadiums with low elevation and load up a pitching staff of guys with high HR/9 ratings just because I know it will put a decent portion of the people who play this game on absolute TILT when they hit a P-P that just dies on the warning track in Griffith Stadium…LOL.
They play and watch streamers play so many games in max elevation stadiums with 320 foot fences that when they have to play a different game…they go absolutely bonkers.

Bingo
And the game isn’t even made to play on rookie- if you want to be even slightly good at ranked/events you have to master allstar
Playing in rookie all the time would just hinder how good you get at the game

Lol, the douchebag troll is back! Only plays online ranked, but really primarily plays forum troll.
No, douche, that wasn't my argument. No gold star for you today.
Now go back to your corner and continue to whine about how you can't select different uniforms in your little part of the universe.
Lol struck a nerve huh
Not at all! You do you. It's entertaining to have a crusty old troll in the neighborhood bitching about what other people are doing as he sits on his lawn sipping his gruel.
Carry on, my friend.
If I wanted to troll you know what I’d post in response to this original message

No offense intended, but -- blah, blah, blah, blah...
If your guy has 125 power and you hit a PP fly ball, it should go out. Period. Unless you're playing at the Polo Grounds and hit it to dead center.
Shouldn't matter to what field. Shouldn't matter what the pitcher's HR/9 is. Shouldn't matter what the elevation is. None of it.
125 power is Bonds on steroids. Ruth in his prime.
This isn't the same as saying all PP's should be hits. That's ridiculous, apologies to the guy who said that.
Go YT grab the at bat where Bonds takes the Big Unit deep. That's 125 power shitting on a legendary pitcher's HR/9.

@SuntLacrimae50_MLBTS said in Major Misses by SDS in 23: A Show Lover's Take:
I list these complaints simply to get them off my chest. I think other single-player DD grinders probably agree with most of it. I've defended SDS in many threads for making so much content free to NMS players, but this year's game's design decisions have made grinding an unpleasant chore. I'm close to calling it quits.
-
CPU pitchers on rookie this year throw far fewer middle-middle pitches than in past years. It's not even close. This makes grinding much more frustrating. In MS and Conquest, many players play on rookie and have other things on in the background. We don't want to "focus" and "work counts." There's a psychology behind this, and SDS has ignored that. So many at-bats on rookie have 70-rated pitchers throwing balls feet off the plate followed by painting the black. They jam you inside then spam sliders. It's not hard; it's just not fun. This is made worse by #2 and #3...
-
Perfect-perfect nukes with power hitters routinely fail to go out. Routinely. This is a baffling design decision that makes "grind 99" even more frustrating. Add to that...
-
The game is often a line-out simulator. Far too often the ball beams straight to a fielder who barely has to move. Several streamers have observed this.
-
TA2 is absurd. The grind is ridiculous. The number of raw hours you have to put in to complete it means it's meant to dominate your time with the game, especially now that the clock is running on those cards due to seasons.
-
Kaiju and other programs are pure filler. Why do we care about 90 OVR cards when our teams are stacked with 99's already? Answer: because the game is now all about preparing for some collection down the line. BUT we're forced to use the cards to complete the programs. Ugh.
Ultimately, my displeasure comes down to single-player grinding on rookie. I've played hundreds of games this year and lost maybe 3. There have been games where I've put up 30, but many more where I've hit well but won 3-0 because of #2 and #3.
Rookie grind is meant to be candy. Pure fun. Domination.
Mindless.
It's not now, and it's not fun.
Just sharing my thoughts on a message board, hoping that SDS sees it perhaps. There have to be thousands of grinders out there who are feel similarly.
Off to play Fallout...peace.
All of this exactly!!!!! Thank you for posting this!!

I don’t think it’s about “padding stats” bro. I think the majority of people have no problem with RS being hard. But what people don’t want (in my opinion), is for “the grinding” to be so difficult that it takes as long as it has been.
For example, the grind for Topps Now and POTM, that’s perfect. Not too hard, takes a few hours and it’s done. The TA grind is just too long. I did season 1. I gave up on season 2. -

"Padding stats" was a bad way to put it. I should have just said grinding PXP. I think part of the issue is expecting TA to be something that can be completed in a few days. I think the whole point is that its supposed to be something that is available to grind throughout the whole current season. It just feels like a lot of people get caught up in the idea of having everything completed the second it comes out and I don't think that's how it is designed for TA.
-
TA grind, Kaiju grind, Incognito grind...they take too long, ask too much, and "reward" you with cards that many/most players won't use on their best squads.
These programs' ultimate goal now is to hoard meh cards to get one good one. Whether it's to get to 160 in set 2 to unlock Randy or to prepare for some collection down the line.
It's a very unmotivating design.
They unlocked 99's on day one, but the creativity of DD has tanked to an all-time low. And we don't have a satisfactory binder for viewing all the useless, meh cards we get. At least give us that...
