Syncing Xbox and ps5 Accounts

I have a ps5 and an Xbox s… I am having trouble linking the accounts. My user names are different for both. Will this cause a problem? I can “connect” each system but not at the same time. Can anyone help?

And remember to be very careful and deliberate with the primary account you choose. You want the one with all of your current progress.
