This is funny to me.
Let's be honest, if 2K or EA dropped their game with alll these 99s from Day 1 of Pre-launch and then told everyone that many of the cards they were grinding for and buying were going to be UNPLAYABLE online in a matter of months...oh man...can you imagine the OUTRAGE!?!?!
Can you imagine the number of posts and tweets and YouTube videos about how "money hungry" they are...and how it's all about "pay to win"?
This mode now has ZERO strategy, it's literally about loading up with overpowered cheese cards with 125 in every stat from Day 1! They've devalued all the cards people get as Rewards...and made it so that EVERY team in Ranked is just stacked with these juiced WBC cards. I literally play the same cards almost every game, and it's been that way for over two weeks.
And why do they also get a pass on how BUGGY their game is?
I mean...I have overlays with the Orioles and Red Sox logos dropping down on the screen in the middle of Ranked Seasons games. LOL!
It's a shame. Because the actual gameplay is solid, especially when you play Ranked Online games with real teams and real players and not these ridiculously juiced cards that turn the game into Slow Pitch Softball 23 - Welcome to The Slow!
They get a pass on most things because when it comes to game modes, they tend to be less greedy. Way more microtransactions from EA and 2K
I don't see a big difference. And at least there is a barrier to assembling a team full of 99s. And with matchmaking, I don't have to worry about that...I can play at my own pace and without the pressure to ONLY have the META cards in my lineup.
What do you think was behind this new way of handling things with 99s from day 1?
It definitely had alot to do with MONEY. Just sit back and watch that play out over time.
A lot is two words.

It’s almost like the game is 2 weeks old and you don’t know how the rest of it will play out.
We don't have to wait to see how it will play out. It will play out exactly the way it has so far after 2 weeks. And then it will repeat.
You'll see the SAME cards used by everyone. Maybe the cards will change, but the lack of variety will not.
The Captains cards and other cards will largely be ignored when it comes time to put together a lineup for Ranked Seasons games.
And as more content is added, you might see a little more variety, but it won't be variety from a ratings standpoint. People will just replace one 99 with a "better" 99.
Oh man...how captivating and strategic! Just a bunch of Theo Epstein's and Billy Beane's around this community!
No one is making you play the game, which sounds like you’re not a fan of. Literally no one.
Snappy comeback. Really strong argument you make there, bud.
They ruined this game mode, and anyone who complains should just shut up and quit. Gotcha!
Don't worry. I won't be playing this garbage for much longer.
I'd rather play both team modes from EA and 2K too. At least there is some kind of strategy built into them, especially if you aren't spending money (NMS).
It's almost like SDS decided to make this mode too easy to appease their crybaby fanboys.
Oh and if you want an actual snappy comeback, in another thread, you said you wouldn’t be playing this game much longer, that was five days ago, yet, you’re still here.
So…………..
You done playing yet?So....two weeks is NOT a long time. But 5 days is?

Hey, it’s been fun getting to know you, but I’ll have to say goodbye now, until you most likely come back with an Alt Account.
Happy trails, and thanks for letting the community know how terrible you think the game is. -
Because they give out a lot of packs and rewards for playing the game. And if you do decide to spend money you can buy the currency and not gamble. Full stop. That’s the answer to your question.
This game certainly has its warts. And anybody who isn’t up their butts call them out on buggy stuff but it’s still leaps and bounds above both EA and 2K and it isn’t close.

They’re a small studio lmao and give out dolls
Small studio. Just owned by Sony, that's all. Small potatoes.
-
Lmao. So let’s be like 2k where there’s 17 versions of a player. Or like EA where you have to wait 6 months sometimes for a card to get upgraded. Go play Nintendo bro
-
They told us upfront this was going to happen. You didn’t have to buy it. I commend them for trying something different.
-
This early in the year you’re going to face mostly the same players any way. Online players use the best cards available. This isn’t new.
-
SDS is not perfect but DD has a better grind system and NMS-Friendly than UT and MyTeam. This year MUT, you cant play online without reaching a certain level and MyTeam, you cant customize your team without having a certain amount of players as well the stamina system. In both EA and 2K, all the cards are buyable but with DD, you would have to grind to get certain cards. While yes there are players who spend huge amount of money to jumpstart their team but that is not normal to online gaming.
-
I repeat. It hasn’t been long enough. We aren’t at set 2 yet. Once we get to set 2 there will be more variety. Every version of the game most players utilize the best available players because most players want to win. Once they have choices they didn’t have before and more available best players it could be different. We don’t know because we haven’t gotten there yet. Then once we get to set 2 and 3 and that WC comes into play it’ll throw people choosing anyone from set 1 into the mix. Once again we haven’t gotten there yet. It’s been literally 13 days since full launch.
-
I would say I agree, but they aren't money hungry. you could get all these cards just by playing the game... unlike 2K and EA, with that said I'm not a fan of the crazy cards right off rip. I liked the idea of playing with low 90's for a month, 93-95's for a few months.. and 99's at the all star break. I liked the old way of doing things...

Because you can field a competitive team by just playing a good amount and not paying a cent. This game has a lot of rough edges. Being pay to play is NOT one of them.
Happy Easter!

I have a 98 ovr team 98 offense 98 defense in madden no money spent but yes much more difficult and less fun than mlb

No ultimate team mode will ever be perfect and please everyone, let’s get the obvious out of the way.
I believe MLB has a much higher player base that sticks to DD offline than say NBA, Madden, Fifa and NHL. You can get a lot of great cards by never touching online. You can in the other games as well but from my experience the rewards in MLB are handed out more frequently than the others.
At the end of the day, when the baseball season is over and the player base drops significantly it won’t matter and the collection for everyone will start again in 2024. I don’t buy stubs, or VC or whatever currency EA decides to use because of this. They are virtual cards that are useless when the new game comes out. However, I don’t care if people choose to spend hundreds to obtain packs and cards, your money, do as you please!
Just enjoy the game, if you’re not having fun or it is just making you angry, there are thousands of other games out there to try.

The other games give out plenty of rewards.
Basically, what it really comes down to...is that they make it EASY to get the best cards in the game. They've dumbed down this mode soooooo much for all the simpletons that they love it. Given how most of the idiots I play online play...it makes a lot of sense, tbh.
And for years, all I heard was how much SMARTER everyone who plays this game is than those who play MUT and MyTeam. I couldn't disagree more.

Variety in what regard?
They've already pushed out all these 99s. No one will be HAPPY with anything less than a 99.
And let's quit playing around and stop calling some of these cards 99s. Because they aren't. In reality, they are more like 115s.
Like it or not, there was also a large segment of the community who felt that the BEST part of Diamond Dynasty and playing Ranked Seasons was at the BEGINNING stages of the game. This is a very popular sentiment echoed from players in DD, MUT, and MyTeam.
SDS completely removed that part of the mode this season. Why?
