Are Set 2 cards (and beyond) basically CORE cards?

There are gonna be 6 sets.

AFAIK there's only 3 sets, right?
Since set 2 can be used during set 3 timeline doesn't that mean every card that drops in set 2 and beyond is basically a "core" card since it won't expire?
If that's the case, the once set 2 drops you can "invest" or collect any card knowing you can use it from that point to the end of the game cycle.
They only showed up to set 3, search filter go up to set 6. Who knows what will be useable in sets 4-6.i could see set 3 being all star related (that's the timeframe) and maybe set 3 will only be useable during set 3.
-
With the seasons being only two months long and there being 12 months in a year (and before the next game is released), the math seems to point toward six seasons and sets as seen in the filter! This kind of points to that set 2 and set 3 cards are no where near being similar to core cards.

There are 6 sets, but we don't know what is usable in sets 4-6

Thanks everyone, I didn't even notice the 6 sets in the filters....this certainly makes the core cards even more valuable!

I'm assuming there will be 6 Sets/Seasons.
While Set/Season 2-6 may have some Core cards; most will probably get Set cards.
If they follow the formula shown now, its possible Set/Season 4 will let you use Set/Season 3 and 4 cards, Core Cards, and I wouldn't put it past them to add an additional WC spot.
But the above statement is pure speculation.

Pretty much can assume this here...
Season 1: Core and Set 1
Season 2: Core, Set 1 and Set 2
Season 3: Core, Set 2 and Set 3 with the Wild Card
Season 4: Core, Set 3 and Set 4 with the Wild Card
Season 5: Core, Set 4 and Set 5 with the Wild Card
Season 6: Core, Set 5 and Set 6 with the Wild Card -

Season 6: Core, Set 5 and Set 6 with the Wild CardSeason 6 with be almost certainly anything goes. Its a solid bet for season 4 and 5 to be that way but we just don't know yet

I am not sure why you would think that. If there is a set 6 then SDS would be shooting themselves in the foot as everyone would already have all of the overly juiced cards from Sets 1-5 and there would be little point to try and get new cards.
Why would you need, for example, a new set 6 outfielder if you can simply slot in 99 Sosa, 99 Edmonds, 99 Babe, 99 Jordan Walker that are already available after only one week of Set 1?
Who needs a new Set 6 3B if you have 99 Chipper?

Who says there is going to be a set 6? Season 6 would start in December. They stop with the new cards then anyway. I know it says 6 sets but it just doesn't time up right

This is going to be a thing no matter what. It’s not like when Set 3 rolls around people aren’t already going to have 99 overall options at every position anyway. They will have all of Set 2 to choose from plus Core cards.
You’ll even see it in Set 2. The only reason to go after any Set 2 cards is if you like/prefer the player. There will be very little difference in actually improving your team all year.

I think this whole thing that MLB the Show is doing is confusing because from what I read was once the season ends you can’t use the cards anymore. What’s the whole point of grinding the certain program if at the end of the season the cards will be non-useable.

It's not at the end of the season, it is after the following season. So basically each set is good for two seasons. Set 1 is good for season 1 and season 2.
