What I don’t like about the Negro League players
-
First I’ll say I love that these great players are in the game; they’re the reason I bought this latest edition of the game.
My complaint is that they are labeled as “Free Agents” and any innings you tally with them in Ranked do not apply to any Team Affinity innings grind.
It’s really weakens the incentive to use the cards. I did all the storylines to get 8 legendary players, but then don’t want to use them because using them doesn’t lead to getting any other players. They are the only cards with that distinction. So in a way, they are being segregated again.
I realize they can’t be assigned to MLB teams when most of them never played in the MLB. But maybe there needs to be a Negro League Affinity program.
Just my two cents.

Pretty sure Team Affinity progress is tracked by what team they played for on the card. Not if they’ve ever played for a certain team.

Right. And of the cards released so far, only Robinson, Thompson, and Paige could ever have a MLB card. True, the versions of the cards they have released so far are all Negro League teams (Monarchs, mostly). And clearly, the Monarchs weren’t in any MLB division.

I like that the developers basically went to one place that had any rights and worked out a deal before saying that's enough for this year.

I just want to see them being used. And I know a lot of guys try to grind the programs at all costs. So even if Buck O’Neil is one of the better first basemans out there right now, I’m afraid we won’t see him as much as we would if he innings counted toward program completion of some kind.
That Satchel Paige is one of the best SPs in the game when you have 8 Negro League players in the lineup. I think guys might be willing to sacrifice one spot or two in the innings grind but far fewer are going to be willing to give up 8 spots.
Overall, though, still very happy to get to use these players. Just wanted to bring up that I think they should get their own program similar to Team Affinity to incentivize using the cards.

Some of the WBC cards are free agents too.

That John Donaldson won MVP in my Lefty Loosey mini season.

Your problem isn't with the cards. Your problem is with Team Affinity.

Haha. Nah. I like TA. I’ve struck my happy medium. I have some Negro League players on my ranked squad and just accept that I’m missing out on some innings grind.

I think there are a lot less people that grind team affinity stuff via ranked then you think there is. Most players do those grinds either offline or in events. The problem with the cards is that you need to use all 8 at once for them to be at their full potential. If you gave them the attributes from the captain boosts and called them 99's you wouldn't see any other cards

There's still Parallel 5 to get. Plenty of grinding.
