Well if the Angels years didn’t exist, he might be. But his career ops+ doesn’t stack up against Babe, Ted, Gehrig, Or Bonds. Dudes like Bagwell, Thomas, and Thome also finished ahead of him in ops+ for their career. Trout as well. But I’ll agree, through 2009, he was the best I’ve ever seen

Oh, so the got Gehrig and Mantle right? They were Yankees. Pujols’ card was great every year. I like his 99s a lot.

I still have to disagree with that: Babe, Mays, Mantle, Griffey Jr., Arod (yes, I know he past him, but only because they made an example out of him and he had to stop playing, Pujols got a pass). I’m not denying he is and was a great hitter, but Top 5 - if you weren’t a Cards fan you would see differently.

Why did he have to stop playing? He was suspended and missed a season. True. But he came back and played parts of two more seasons. He was released by the Yankees after batting .200 in 65 games in 2016 at the age of 40 and decided to retire.
Wasn't he free to do what Pujols did and find a new club in free agency. By the way, Alex played 22 seasons and this is Albert's 22nd season.
I am not taking anything away from Rodriguez or arguing about who is/was better but I just questioned the statement that he was somehow forced out.

I do have to ask how Pujols got a pass. A-Rod was caught cheating multiple times and was punished accordingly. I am not gonna a pretend Arod and Bonds aren't amazing hitters but they're tainted. Pujols has been tested many many times over 22 years and has never tested positive. Not in the Mitchell report, never implicated or tied to roids. He didn't get a pass, he played by the rules.
And come on....Griffey? I love Griffey and if you add fielding and base running of course Griffey matches him well. I'm talking hitting.

He was going to be “the first clean player to hit 700 HRs.” Once it was released he wasn’t clean (the second time) they blackballed him. MLB and the Yankees did him dirty. I admit, he did it to himself; but why does everyone else get a pass?

I think Albert was going to get a retro finest however once he hit the 690 mark they have a 700 HR card waiting and if he gets it there will be a program for it much like Miggy with his 300 HR last year.

I agree he should have been no more punished than anyone else on the Mitchell report. And he wasn't. He then tested dirty in violation of the policy 2 more times. He sued the players union (basically his teammates) over it, got people from the lab fired for doing their jobs and let's not forget he slapped the ball out of Bronson Arroyo's hand. I know that had nothing to to do with anything but it's fun to remember. Whether Pujols is better or not, this was the one milestone I wanted him to get. 700 would be awesome too but passing Arod is amazing.
That aside, I admit that it's still a subjective argument. Imagine if Griffey had stayed healthy. Imagine if Ted Williams, Hank Greenberg, Stan Musial, Ralph Kiner and many others didn't miss several years for the war. Imagine if Jackie had played his whole career in MLB or if Josh Gibson had as well. What if Mickey didn't destroy his knee on that sprinkler? There are a ton of great hitters and I'm glad to say Pujols is among them no matter where we put him on the list.
I also admire your passion for the game. Obviously I'm a little biased haha, I admit it. Heck, where will Trout be on this list in 10 years? Who is your team?

It’s cool, we are all a little biased when it comes to our favorite teams and players. I am a Yankees fan, actually. That is why I know a lot about what happened with AROD. By the way, he was never mentioned on the Mitchell Report. I think it’s despicable what he did. Whoever I was answering to before thinks Arod stopped playing due to age. The first suspension was for the years he played in Texas. He came back, hit a HR in his first AB back. Now, the second suspension should have never happened. He voluntarily tested for research that was supposed to remain anonymous. Though he was cheating, they should have tested him legally. The MLB was wrong, the Yankees were wrong, and yes Arod too.
That aside, I agree, Pujols is one of the greatest hitters of his time. There are way too many players we have never seen. Statistics do not make a great hitter. I think the greatest player was Joe DiMaggio, but you can ask 100 people and get 100 different answers. Griffey was the most exciting player I got to see. His swing, the natural talent that he just had for hitting made it look like he wasn’t trying. He was also the most marketable. Now, I was a pitcher, so I respect that part of the game. I was a big fan of Andy Pettitte, the best post-season pitcher.

AROD was never going to be the first "clean" hitter to hit 700 for multiple reasons. 1.) He wasn't clean and 2.) Have you heard of Henry Aaron?

That and the Yankees just didn't want to pay him any bonus money for breaking milestones. They also used that roster spot to call up Judge who hit a massive .178 or something (although I'm sure it was valuable MLB experience for him).
I guess the allure (and maybe value) of 700 hrs probably loses some value given his on-going steroid/legal/contract drama he had but I feel like people still would have shown up to a park to watch him go for it.

Sorry, I obviously made a typing error. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. Many sports commentators on places similar and maybe including ESPN said AROD had a likely chance of being the first clean player to break Aaron’s home run record. Obviously he didn’t do it, and he was not clean. I was talking to a friend, I should have done it in a PM. Please let’s not bring this up on a DD board, he doesn’t have a card.
