So Mantle hit 54 HR's in 1961 and was ahead of Maris when he got hurt towards the end of the season. Kudos to Maris for getting 61. So how does Mantle get a 98 and Ripken and Bench get a 99? This year's game is making less and less sense to me. I'll have to agree with joeythebigboss
2nd Half card vs Finest and Milestone. The 2nd half of that season was the worse half too for Mantle

Yea, I would rather have had a 99 Mantle than either Ripken or Bench.
I would gladly take a 93-96 Mantle and/or Griffey two months earlier and a 99 later….than this weird 98/99 thing going on right now.

I’m getting that same letdown feeling when I saw 2nd half Griffey Jr., at least it is a 98, so they will release the 99 much later.

Those 95s of players like Gehrig and Aaron and Mays were not used by too many people that I noticed last year when they released them. Gehrig was done dirty though. I don’t really remember if Mantle had one.

No doubt Bench will be my pick for Boss.

Gehrig had an amazing 99 last year. Bombs for days. Or do you mean the mid 90s card?

Mantle had a 95 last year, Griffey had a 96. I used Griffey way more than the 99 because the 99 didn’t come until the very end. I’m just saying if they are releasing three diamonds still, it makes more sense for 88/95/99 or 88/96/99 with those 95/96 coming early to mid summer than doing 88/99/99 or 88/98/99 with the mid card coming when it is almost fall.

His mid 90s card. Gehrig’s 99 has always been one of my favorites to use. Jimmy Foxx if I need a righty.

I agree. I used Griffey the whole year. 42 series at release, the 96 (though they screwed with his stance, but swing was still butter), and then the 99. I was speaking of the cards they released in TA. I was being sarcastic when I said at least we know we will get a 99 Mantle much later. I was actually relieved when I didn’t see a better Mantle when others were getting mid 90s like Mays, Foxx, and others did because I thought that we were going to see his 99. Especially now that 99s are being released. I never thought they would release a 98, it doesn’t make sense. I know they can release guys like Ripken and Bench, because the large part that plays DD will still wait for Griffey, Mantle, Mays, and the other big names that keep people playing. I guess that is why.

Sounds like the final Boss could be.. PEDRO MARTINEZ!
Now hopefully it'll be a good card unlike last years.
But tbh I don't have much hope unless its a finest card. -

But tbh I don't have much hope unless its a finest card.It doesn’t have to be a Finest card to be good. Is it definitely Pedro? When I saw the 8x AS and WS winner I thought of Mad Max. It would be boring to get too many Finest cards. If it’s Pedro, make it a CY Young Award card one of the year he led the league in H/9 and WHIP. I don’t remember him throwing a no-hitter (though he could have), just throwing Don Zimmer to the ground. Not a great guy, but sure was a great pitcher!
How did you know it’s Pedro? -

Everyone said that card was trash last year and he was my best starter the rest of the year. I used him at AS and HOF and I just looked and had a 1.38 ERA and 15.15 k/9 online. I think so many people were used to using outlier guys last year that they didn’t use Pedro the way he should be used. He was by far the best card for me keeping hitters off balance.

He wasn't my best pitcher last year results wise but he wasn't bad at all and he was by far my favorite pitcher to use. His windup and motion were so smooth I thought.

It was more that he didn’t get the super high H/9 that the No-Hitter cards. I do have to give you props for not having to rely on the Outlier and used a pitcher by strategic pitching instead of throwing. I’m not saying that anybody that uses a pitcher with outlier doesn’t no how to pitch, but I know of some who won’t use cards without outlier.

Everyone that said he was trash didn't even use him. The just scoffed at anything that wasn't 125 H/9 or outlier. I still stand by the fact that no hitter cards were a mistake of an idea. I hope we don't get any more the rest of the year. I had success with Kershaw too(although he shouldn't have been a collection reward)

Fernando's 96 card this year is far from outlier but if used right, he is unhittable meaning soft contact at best. So there are ways to pitch without outlier.
