A consideration for SDS and the community

How much would the likeness rights to Leroy “Satchel” Paige cost? His 99 would be an amazing card to use and his windup would be so much fun. Would a kickstarter for this be feasible? How many in the community would go for this? Maybe SDS could offer a 91 Satchel Paige to anyone who participates?

I know Satchel played in both Negro Leagues and MLB, but your idea got me thinking...

Why on earth has SDS not bought the rights to Negro League players and uniforms?

There's no downside. SDS would help teach this generation about an important part of baseball history.

And securing the rights would also help support the families of Negro League stars.

Any reason why this shouldn't happen?

    I love this.

Wish there was more usage rights/love/access/knowledge towards this generation of greats --- in context to the NBL. Although, now more than ever that may be happening in culture.

I like the end goal but I'm not in favor of doing a kickstarter for a billion dollar corporation.

I'm sure there's more to the situation than meets the eye, but the idea is great & the heart behind what you said is on point. I concur. I liked the stuff SDS did with the Jackie Robinson foundation earlier in the year, fwiw.

I've wanted a Satchel Paige card for years

A Negro League Program is long overdue. Each year we can get five John Smoltz, three Matt Carpenter’s, shark logos and more diamond uniforms than anyone knows what to do with….yet constantly ignore some of the greatest to ever play the game.

But I think Negro League rights are wrapped into MLB rights now. I could be wrong, but I think I read that somewhere. If so, the show would only have to get the players rights to add these players

Great post, great idea. But instead of a Kickstarter since it's obvious they can afford the rights to any player or estate willing to participate, there should be some type of campaign to get them to acknowledge this and make the move. It's great we have Larry Doby, Minnie Minoso, Jackie and others. But why not incorporate the history of the league, team names, uniforms, players? It's such a rich part of history not just for baseball and America but civil rights, and the study of humanity.

Their records count now, but I do not think MLB owns the rights to those names, That would be alittle weird for MLB to say "Yep, all those names are under our rights now!"

Yeah, that's got to be a tricky subject, still I imagine SDS can afford the right of whatever is available. I can't imagine it would be deemed off limits, though some players and estates may choose not to participate like anyone else.
