If you find Showdown too difficult, I think you're probably swinging too much. Most of the missions are on lower difficulties and the game rewards you for taking pitches. If you're really struggling, don't swing until you have 2 strikes on you.

Swing at good pitches and take the bad ones. Seems easy enough but most are too impatient and swing at everything then wonder why they fail. Showdown has allowed me to build an all diamond team without spending any stubs other than the 1000 to enter which you make back after the first boss. Honestly showdown is the best thing they’ve added in years!

Did y'all not play video games back in the day. I'll take Showdown over Battletoads, Contra, Castlevania III, or Ghosts N' Goblins any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Of course it's going to get harder as you go. The larger deficit you attempt the last Showdown is going to affect your ability to win.

I'm an old guy that predates those games and I still feel like next you will be telling me how you had to walk 5 miles to school, uphill both ways. Oh, and in the snow.

I'm not that old, but the point still stands. You can't lose focus or get frustrated. I'm winning the vast majority of Showdowns I play. The ones I've lost have been my fault though, despite some bad beats that went against me.

You have to pick players correctly, use appropriate perks, and play smart.

I'm willing to bet that a lot of this is over exaggeration due to frustration after losing. I get it, but blowing it out of proportion doesn't actually lead to contribute feedback that can be used to improve the mode.

When it’s 15-15 with 3 outs left and you hit one into the gap and Judge makes a Mays diving grab and the last two outs are I kid you not leaping over the wall homerun robbing catches in CF it kind of makes you put the controller down for awhile.

And actually be good at the game. The best drafting and playing strategies in the world won't overcome a lack of skill in this mode. Sometimes it won't even overcome bad luck and bad RNG.

This is good advice sort of but:

    1. early on you will take a lot of good pitches to hit and hits knock the cpu pitcher confidence down much quicker than anything else

    2. once you are close or tied, even if the cpu pitcher is tired and has thrown 60+ pitches, they will still throw dots.

My approach is now to swing at good pitches to hit early, and if things don’t fall for me, take until two strikes OR I’m in an advantage count.

Later on, the cpu throws dots even (especially) in hitter counts so at that point you need a bit of luck.

To me, this is the biggest flaw in the mode. Regardless of number of pitches thrown, and hits given up, at crunch time the cpu will become Greg Maddux. If I work over the pitcher and score like 8 runs on him, he should be on the ropes by then. It just doesn’t happen.

There would likely be generally less complaints overall if anyone had actually played the beast that is battletoads

I understand that people aren’t happy with the pitcher dotting the corners still once he is beyond tired but if he started throwing only meatballs then everyone would just wait till the pitcher is tired and showdown would become super easy and lose the competitive edge that makes it fun.

If I knew all I had to do was wait till the pitcher threw over a 100 pitches and he got super easy, I’d wait till two strikes in the count and purposely swing late with circle to get a bunch of foul balls each at bat and get his pitch count up. I think the way it is now is better than the alternative you are all hoping for.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. You don't touch AS difficulty until near the end. I don't believe most of the extreme circumstances are being reported 100% accurately.

Again, there are rewards tied to the mode including a good chunk of TA points. It's not going to be something people will complete 100% of the time. You can easily recover the entry fee and come away with some packs even if you don't win the big one.

It's just like every game mode it is not mandatory. I'd rather play Showdown than slog through the AS mess known as BR.

I just think the mode should play like the difficulty suggests. Veteran should play like veteran in conquest and so on. If the want it to play like HoF just put it on HoF and be done with it.

Also, I know when my pitcher is gassed I have no control, I would expect the same of cpu pitchers. Not in the red or completely out of energy and still putting the ball where they want.

My strategy with Hader was to just do whatever possible to foul off pitches until he was gassed. However, DID NOT MATTER. With literally zero energy, he was still dotting corners. Sure I got a few walks...but, when I eventually had to swing, it was mostly 112mph missiles for outs.

(Sure, I can beat him if I do all the challenges and go in only a few runs down, but I thought a zero energy closer would be easy pickings. NOPE.)

I think the issues with showdown are very minor fixes. Doing the showdowns gives me vibes from the CAP and Storyline moments last year. Where the presented difficulty isn't the same as the difficulty from the same situation in Play vs CPU. Everything else is Quality of Life style fixes
