Ive been using zone for the past 2 years and definitely no better feeling than hitting a perfect perfect homerun. That being said when i was struggling for a bit i switched to pure timing it was the best ive used besides zone. Make sure you have good plate discipline and make sure you really focus on timing. I had quite a bit of success this way. Even quite a few perfect home runs so defintely a viable option

I'm older as well, been playing The Show since the first one on PS2, always a zone guy until a few years ago and switched to Directional and haven't looked back.

And i use to be a big Zone Snob as well.

I am sure this has been asked before throughout this game’s history. I am a new Xbox player. Played last year, just in offline franchise. This year tried DD. I enjoy it. Have learned some hard lessons. Didn’t understand currency, etc. Spent some money that I shouldn’t have. It’s ok. Doesn’t bother me.

However, I do have an issue trying to use the PCI. Every video and YT’r that my son shows me all say that is the only way to go. I try and try, but I have significant neuropathy in both hands from military.

So, tried directional, and I can somewhat figure it out, but it seems once I try any online play, it just doesn’t work. Is there a methodology to get better at directional with online play, or is the system just so heavily weighted that it is PCI or bust?

Sorry for the long question, but your time is greatly appreciated. I have been playing RS. I get crushed but play out the games for the other person and just try to get innings.

Try timing that might be the easiest solution for you - and the most comfortable considering your condition , I hope it helps.

If you continue to struggle and need to use directional I would aim for guys like Lofton and Boggs and others with really high contact and vision. You are somewhere accurate with the online play. It becomes much more based on real life and the attributes of the players. A slider away is really tough to hit in real life, so it translates to the game, but contact and vision will help with that.

Also if you struggle online don’t worry, everyone does at first. I played on rookie with maxed sliders (steroids) for years, now I’m alright. But more importantly SDS gives a lot of ways to earn most things offline, so you can still enjoy the game even if you can’t enjoy being super competitive.

You competed at the highest level known to man, you are excused if you lose in MLB the show online.

There is also a final option and that would be an “online league” against others who may not be able to play at a high level like yourself but have fun playing amongst each other. It isn’t super popular but you only need a few guys to enjoy it.

I’m 70 and I’ve used both directional and zone. Right now I’m using zone because of the PCI adjustment. But I switch back sometimes for moments. One thing I can’t seem to get is pinpoint pitching. I really would like to use that but every time I’ve tried it it’s a disaster. Can’t figure that one out. Also can’t figure out stealing bases.

I'm in my mid 40s, use only Directional, and most of my hitters have a .400+ BA and 1.300+ OPS online.

I'm not good enough for WS, Flawless BR, etc, but I'm still decently competitive online.

Honestly, I would attempt to sincerely reach out to littleman on Twitch. Obviously we’re comparing apples to oranges in terms of physical disabilities, but he may have some suggestions.

I agree with this. Since you are an XBOX player maybe you can reach out to Microsoft and if Littleman (AJ) knows a connection within the team with accessibility options. One thing thing that the Xbox team does very well is all their accessibility option for controllers and what not. Maybe one of moderators here also could chime in for some advice?

I was thinking about your post as I was playing tonight. I have the red and purple Kontrol Freeks (one for each of my controllers). These might offer some cushion on the sticks for you. I like them equally. The purple put your sticks at different levels and the red raises the sticks a bit.

    Just a thought.

    @Blind_Bleeder

I can’t thank you enough. I started looking at them. I admit…. Old and slow on the trends. Not sure how I missed these. Went and picked up a set of the red ones. Also got a set of the little foam ring things. Using both and this is helping, at least in single player on All-star.

I don’t have the precision, but the combination of the button things and the foam allow the gross moments to be more “precise” if that makes sense and I have a greater chance of ending up in the PCI Zone.

This combined with someone else’s suggestion to target players with over 100 contact and high vision. So, I have Jim Rice in outfield, etc. This is working better.

Truly, truly appreciate all of your guys help. The fact that you would take your time out to reply at all… just thanks.

Mid 40s been bashing buttons with my thumbs for over 30 years, so I can feel a lot of weakness and shaking, it Aldo makes me have limited motion and slower response time using zone. However too much RNG in timing for me. My best advice is similar to what someone else said. Place the PCI where you expect the ball to be abs only swing at pitches near there you can get to with a little movement. I basically set it in a place I like and wait to get it.

BrolyLegs uses his mouth to play fighting games, so you should try that before using the brain dead timing hitting/directional crutch
