To me outlier does not separated the good from great players as much as it separates the good from great connections. We already see varying pitch speeds from game to game, 102 just adds another level

There are very few pitchers in MLB history that are truly deserving of outlier, and Richard is absolutely one of them. Guy was way ahead of his time when it came to pumping ched.

There are very few pitchers in MLB history that are truly deserving of outlier, and Richard is absolutely one of them. Guy was way ahead of his time when it came to pumping ched.
Agreed. He was before my time, but my dad would always talk about him and Larry dierker.

But yes, definitely hope the flood gates don't open. They wanna give guys like Ryan, DeGrom, Feller etc outlier thats fine, they deserve it....but it needs to be slim pickins.

I just read a great book on the history of the Astros and these two are referenced plenty. Looking forward to this card.

Wasn't Dierker the Stros coach in the 90's? Haven't heard that name in years.

Wasn't Dierker the Stros coach in the 90's? Haven't heard that name in years.
Yep. 97-2001. Had a great record too. Finished 1st in the NL central all but 1 year he was managing. That was about the time I was really getting into baseball and kept hearing about his pitching in the 60's and 70's.

As Someone said above, I don’t see this card having legs due to not enough speed differential. But I may change my tune if he makes me look silly

Watched some game play on the Tube and he got hit around pretty good on legend. Your mileage may vary.

Outlier won't be as strong as last year as they nerfed it a little bit. They won't be throwing 102 all the time.
